from dictionary.com:

emasculate:

1. to castrate.
2. to deprive of strength or vigor; weaken.
–adjective
3. deprived of or lacking strength or vigor; effeminate.

"man up" as i've always used and heard is in reference to whiners, complainers and 2nd guessers. "if someone else can't do it right, man up and do it right yourself" is one example. To me it questions mental fortitude, not "bring your manliness back to full bore, tilt etc..."

Are we experiencing deja vu all over again?

Or is it just Groundhog Day and I somehow missed it?

Well, this reminds me of a time as a school district administrator I was called to an elementary school where they feared that we might have some kind of poisoning event. It seems that one child got sick to her stomach and became 'unfed' by throwing up fairly violently in class. The children closest to her were overcome by it and vomited as well. This led to a chain reaction and, in toto, about 10-12 hurled.

It wasn't too hard for me to piece this all together and reassure everyone that it was the sights and smells that triggered the event.

Once in awhile, you come across something that affects people in a way you could predict, but to see the chain reaction it is a study in human behavior to say the least.

Lets let this one go, shall we?

pchilson,

You bet. I can. But, what would be nice to see is some self restraint, some impulse control. That way we end up doing less modding and guys do what they did on this thread which is start working it out and self policing. That, to me, is what makes this board special. Reasonable people who may occasionally get mad, but work it out and come back to being friends or at least tolerant of each other.

Yes, I know I can just lock and delete threads, and I do that sometimes, in this case, I am available to watch the thread while I work on stuff this morning and I want to see what our self control is today.

getbent, you're a mod now!? I guess I've been away from this place longer than I thought. Congratulations (or should I say condolences) are in order! Good to know you're one of the folks keeping an eye on things.
