    Hey folks,

Took my trusty Classic 30 to jam night last night.

At the start of the night, no sound. Then it decided to work. And when it did work.....

I couldn't crank the volume over 8 without the amp squealing. This is with the guitar volume 'off'. In the end I had to turn round, crank it 10 for solos and then turn it back down afterwards. Couldn't leave the amp cranked and control from the guitar as per usual....

Apart from that squeal the thing sounds great.....

    Any ideas?

    Arghhhh

    Cheers,

    Adam

Swap out the preamp tubes one by one. You may have a microphonic tube. If that doesn't do it and you're not really good with tube amp diagnostics, it's off to the tech.

    Thanks Wayne, will try that.

I have a few 12ax7s kicking about, one by one I'll see if its a dud pre-amp tube......or three

    Cheers,

    Wayne, you were right on.

In the end I swapped out all the pre-amp tubes with some oldies in the stash. It appears all three pre-amp tubes were contributing to some sort of problem. Problem solved.

I can now turn the amp up to 10 or more without the hideous squeal. Alright!

    Cheers,

    Adam
