Amp Mic-ing

Discussion in 'Amp Central Station' started by giddyap, Jan 23, 2021.

Which mic would you record any amp with? (these are your only choices)

  1. Shure SM57

  2. Sennheiser e906

Maybe this belongs in a Recording Forum, but...

The 906 is just perfect every time, no stand or placement worries

I heard "Breezin", Bensons 15th album, I think, was recorded with all SM57s. So, not bad at all.

I'm in the market also. I'm puzzled about mics.

Is there anything about a mic's response that can't easily be fixed by EQ?

I've seen/heard the YT videos and prefer the e906, but it's nearly $100 more than the 57.

Can't a 57 recording be tweaked easily to sound like the 906?

I voted for the Sennheiser, but you could use both and blend to taste.

    E906.

It can sound like itself or an e609. An e609 is quite similar to the SM57.

E906 sounds better, and is way easier to use. The design let's you leave it draped over the amp without setting up a mic stand.

    Edit:

I like using a second mic on the back of open backed combos. If you buy an e906, you still have reason to buy a 57.
