I really believe the first genuine sub-genre of R'n'R was Rockabilly, a blend of R'n'R and Hillbilly music. If Elvis is to be considered a rocker, it has to be because he played Rockabilly. It occurred within early years of R'n'R and was really a White thing, and there weren't too many British bands who jumped on that bandwagon early.

Oddly many Brit rockers emulated Americans, Cowboy boots, western fashion etc...

Was there any US bands that started wearing bowlers and carrying umbrellas, cod pieces, dressing like jesters etc?

How many US skiffle bands where there?

    :D

Whole lotta Americans stopped getting haircuts after Feb 9 1964...

You'll see a rather sudden upturn in the sales of guitars in America after that date too.

More than British bands perfecting Rock, which we already had great examples of, I'd say British bands invented Pop Rock.
Before they showed up pouting at the teenage girls, Rock was more rebel fringe music.

Pop Rock came from the British, for better or for worse...

I can't ever forget Hawkwind. Johnny Kidd, The Big Three, Screaming Lord Sutch & The Savages and a few others perfected it before Lord Lemmy joined the spaceship and took Hawkwind to levels few other bands have achieved.

Who voted for him?, who first proclaimed it?, which publicist generated the tagline, forged the hook, enbarbed it and baited it with a juicy worm?

    Not entirely related

Yeah, that's the great thing about the UK. They don't draw artificial lines separating people into one class or another.

Don't forget American music is WAY more diverse!

Here's a list of great Brit Country bands....

Here's a list of great Brit Jazz bands.....

Here's a list of great Brit R&B bands......

You may be able to add a couple to these list but they'd out of top 25.....

Which is better, The Animals or Jefferson Airplane?

    It's just personal taste.

Completely legit to bring up Who , Kinks , Beatles, Stones , Zeppelin.

Those bands don’t even need to be mentioned they are so monumental/elemental to the power if rock n roll.

But don’t shoot yourself in the foot by even whispering “Uriah Heep”.

    That’s just embarrassing.

    I’m 55, soon to be 56.

When I listen to music I make sure it counts. Who knows how much time I have ? Not going to waste it on 4th and 5th tier bands .

And - it’s ok to really love a band and still have objectivity about them and their standing/non-standing in the pantheon...
