Only build quality lol

They can be iffy, but early to mid 70's Deluxes and Customs tend to be better. I've got three (1 Deluxe & 2 Customs) myself and they're all built very well with tight neck slots etcetera, so I've no quality complaints whatsoever. Also no hum at all, whereas ny MIM Deluxe is noisy as hell...

I have only played one early 70’s, and I do agree they tend to be better. A majority of the 70’s teles Ive played were around 75, 76, 78, 79..

I never really liked these teles until I played a thinline with 2x WRHB’s and ever since I’ve been GAS’ng for it but never found a quality specimen. The older reissues didn’t sport the CuNiFe and it’s what stopped me from buying one until these AVII’s.

I’m hoping manufacturing and QC would get better on these AVII’s!

Went to a local shop while vacationing in Laguna today: tried out an AVII Tele Deluxe with the WRHB Cunife. I noticed that in all three positions, there was some noise/hum. Just like it would with single coil 60 cycle hum, the noise got better or worse, depending on where I faced it in the room, despite the humbucking nature of these pickups.

I Compared with a AVII jazzmaster also there in the shop: it was slightly more noisy in the bridge and neck positions (expected since they are JM pickups), but it was completely silent in the middle, the whole shop was quiet as a mouse. And then, I tried a MIM Vintera version of the Deluxe (non Cunife pickups), and it was just as silent in all positions. So environmental reasons are out.

Is this something that’s part of the design of Cunife wide range pick ups? Or might’ve been an issue with the individual guitar?
I recently acquired an American Vintage ii 1951 Fender Telacaster reissue and I noticed that on the “NECK and MIDDLE” position there is a NOTICEABLE hum BUT on the BRIDGE position is 80-85% silent. I’m not sure if it’s their wiring but it’s just weird.

I was expecting the middle position will be hum free but it has the same hum as the neck pick up and the bridge pick up is surprisingly silent.

I have the same issue with original Deluxes (a '73 and '75) in my home, it's not as bad as single coil guitars. I think there may be a problem with the incoming power. It seemed to start when a transfomer on an electric pole was replaced near my house a few years ago.

As you said moving the guitar changes the hum similar to a single coil guitar. Doesn't happen with most Gibby's with humbuckers so there might be a difference in how they are wired. My single coil guitars with a reversed wound pickup is much quiter in the middle position, sort of turns the two into a humbucker.

When I play at a freinds house that is just a few years old and much more rural there isn't much if any hum, and even single coil guitars are pretty quiet. Very frustrating, but when jamming with bass and drums the overall volume masks it and I don't hear it on any recordings.

@bmgraphics505 there has to be a ground issue in the wiring. I saw a YouTube (Troggly) review of the guitar that had the same issue.

Hum is not inherent to the pickups. I have a vintage 75 deluxe and have installed the cunife reissues in a strat.

Maybe there’s a bad batch of the pickups. Idk.

Maybe have the guitar shop check the grounding and wiring of the pickups? I have an AVRI ‘72 Tele Thinline from 2012 that had the last version of the WRHB pickups in it. When the new, authentic CuNiFe were reissued, I bought two for the Thinline and a neck pickup for my ‘72 Tele Custom reissue. All of the pickups sound great! So I’m wondering if the issue with the guitar is due to a wiring or grounding issue.

Check the ground wire to the bridge.

I had the same annoying noise issue with the same guitar, bought brand new in 2023. I took it my local Fender licensed repair center, right away, and they said that's just the way it is with Fender unpotted, microphonic humbuckers, nothing could fix it. Such a shame, the guitar sounds and played great. Finally, sadly, I replaced the expensive Cunife humbuckers with Seymour Duncans, and it is quiet as a mouse now. If I new I was having to swap out pickups, I would have bought the Pro II Deluxe, and put the Semour Duncan's in it, and saved about $900.

I'm not electrician but.. I have a pro ii deluxe tele. That thing hummed loud in every dang position. Once I realized it still did it even when the strings were touched, I knew something was wrong. The loaded deluxe pickguard is basically on an island by it self. Making no contact with other parts of the guitar ( other than the output jack).
Under the pickguard, I ran a wire from the bridge plate to the metal humbucker ( frame?)... thus connecting the "plastic island" to the circuit. Hum went completely away,
I'm a novice but it worked for me
