I can get either used for about the same price.

What model/range is the blue from 1993 ? Standard or pro?

I like the 6 saddles. Other than that, are they more or less equivalent?

You can get both for about he same price? Get the American Pro II, just because the frets will be in better condition. And against common belief, I think that Fender has been improving on their standard products.

The American Pro II is about 2/3 of a new price.

How much overpriced is the '93 ?

I prefer 6 saddles. The current pro's with 6 saddles are on the ultra line, which is 2300 eur. A bit steep.

So I'm eyeing the 1993 if I can get a proper price estimation and if someone can tell me about the overall quality and tone compared to current line.

The 1993 is old, the 2023 nearly new. Other than the obligatory ‘which one speaks to you?’ stuff, it seems obvious to me that the AmPro is the way to go. Don’t quite get the pricing though. Either the AmPro is cheap or the ‘93 is over priced, probably trying to cask in on it being perceived as ‘vintage’.
A proper price differential may change my view.

the american standard is at the right european price, but the american pro ii is a deal, for sure. If you really need the 6 saddles, go for it, but I would get the pro.

Am Pro II necks are the best I've ever played from a fit-and-finish standpoint. I also happen to like their shape, so they're also the best neck for me, ever.

What's a correct price for the 1993 ?

How different are they?

Over here (in the UK) you can find 90's and 00's US standards for as low as £650 up to around £1000, depending on condition, colour, case etc...

Pro II are usually around £1000 - £1200 (new they are £1700)

I would imagine they are roughly the same in €?

If they are around the same price, I think the Pro II is a better deal, if the '93 was quite a bit less say €800-850 then I might consider that. I also think the '93 is overpriced, but maybe owning a 30 year old guitar has some extra appeal too.

That’s not a ‘93. Perhaps an ‘03. Spaghetti logo and serial on back of headstock started in ‘95. That color is aqua marine and started in ‘99.

If it left the factory with all the parts it has on it now, it’s an American Series. Which is that time period’s Pro II equivalent.

If the frets are in good shape and everything works, I’d rather have that one than the Pro II. YMMV, but if it’s all there and running right it wouldn’t be a hard decision for me at all.

It would be around $1k here in the US if it’s in good shape.

if you are able to pick them both up and play them, one of them will stand out to you. Doesn't matter which one. If you are buying and can't check them out its a total crap shoot. You will never know which one was a better fit for you. Nobody in this discussion can tell you which is better for you based on SPECS. Guitars are personal and not one shoe fits all ! Good luck, enjoy, both are nice guitars, or at least look like nice guitars !

Fender didn't have certificates with American Standards/American Series/etc. back then. Outside of Fender Custom Shop very few Fenders had certificates - AVRI '52 Teles (but not every year of the run) and limited editions. Fender starts using the current certificates for all USA models in early 2017.

My perception is Fenders have raised in quality across the board over the last 30 years, and most notably up to about 2010, but it’s not night and day. The issue on those 90s American Standards can be the neck finish lifting and flaking. That could be those marks on the treble side of the fretboard. This is it fairly well known on 90s MiA fender (although probably still a low proportion) but not really an issue from what I’ve read on more recent Fenders. But, if that hasn’t happened yet I would presume it’s unlikely to occur now unless it’s just sat in a case. Otherwise, I’d say they’re mainly similar. Pickups are a matter of taste. The 93 is prettier, and it’s cheaper…

IMO, there is no comparison between a new AmProII and a 93 Standard. The neck is far superior on the APII, and the neck is what it's all about.
