Do any of you have an American Original 60’s Thinline tele?

While there's plenty of information and reviews out there for the solidbody AO models, there's not much for the thinlines.

How is it? Is the neck think or thin? I can't seem to find the neck specs anywhere. How are the pickups?

I've got one 3TSB. Wish I had picked up the SG instead.

I'm not an expert but compared to my AO 60s solid body, it's more or less the same. Neck is a thick C in my mind. Very comfortable.

Same pups etc

Great guitars!

Thanks. Is the neck on the Thinline about the same thickness as the AO 60’s, or is it thinner?

Which do you prefer between the AO 60’s solid body and the thinline?

Although similar they're actually quite different in terms of feel.

I prefer the maple board on the thinline but that's a personal taste. The body of the AO SB is double bound so it's less comfortable. The thinline is lighter but probably not by as much as you would expect.

The thinline sounds better. I pick it up first more often.

I played one when I was in the Army 73 and I remember the neck was a average sise not thin but not thick. It was one of the best semi hollow guitars I have ever played had a great sound and was different then the solid body tele.

Hi there, the neck dimension/thickness is almost the same between the two…

IMO the real difference between solid and thinlines are the tone due to weight difference, not because the TL is hollow. Itl;s lighter because it;s hollow yes, but what i'm saying is it;s the weight difference that give a thinline an airier more open tone. So if you get a thinline thats the same wood and all as a solid and the same weight or close, theres not gonna be any difference but for the usual variance due to different pieces of wood. I've had several thinlines and the one that was as heavy as a typical sold tele sounded just like the typical solid tele. So if you get a rather heavy thinline the difference will be looks. Thats mynopinion but of all the teles i have had it's been the rule 100%. Personally i really like light weight thinlines for that airy dynamic and open tone. At the moment i have a classic series 69 thinline ash and maple and it's to die for. Kinda hard to recommend which u should get because you aren't me so i dunno which you would prefer. But if i had to recommend one anyways i'd say thinline. The light weight is also a bonus just for the way it feels on a strap.

No point, just an observation

I just got a Squier '69 ( I guess it's called '60's now) Thinline Tele ( mahogany and love it!) and just wanted to compare my guitar's specs to above Thinline.

My guitar weight is only 6lbs.5 oz. (picked from Sweetwater) vs. 7lbs.7 oz., for the Fender. 1 lb. difference! That almost seems substantial when talking about a Thinline.

But I'm thinking mine is maybe the one actually on the light side, not the other way around.
Just a musing-

I've owned both. I think the profile and taper are different. Bearing in mind that each unit will be hand-finished. On average:

- AO60s: bit thicker feel. Gets fatter as it goes up the neck. More of an even C feel.
- AO60s Thinline: Taper is more even - stays pretty similar as you move up the neck. Less "shoulders" than the AO60s (which in turn has less shoulder than the AO50s).

Which guitar did you prefer between the solidbody and thinline AO 60's (& 50's as well, if you've played that_?

I don't like giant necks. Apart from that I'd prefer the 50s.

I love the AO60s but the binding is really sharp (way sharper than Gibson) and I'm not wild on RW fretboards on Fenders (given that they position their side dots 1/2 in the maple and then lacquer over them - making sure I can't see them).

So the Thinline by default.

In terms of neck shape/profile, AO60s by a country mile.

I've learned I'm really an LP guy so I don't own any these days.

Not a big fan of the black finish, but Wildwood does have thin-skin thinlines in a natural finish once in a while.
I purchased one of these last year. Not a big fan of the black and actually had it for sale before I came to my senses .Now, I really love the way the nitro black finish is settling into the ash and the guitar is so "lively". At 6.1 lbs, mine is very easy to play and I am glad I kept this one.

Looks like Wildwood has only 1 left, so if you want a "thin skin" version, I would jump on it.

I've been considering this one at a local shop, but it's $2,300... It's been there a pretty long time. Maybe if it stays up on the rack long enough it'll get discounted enough to where I can't pass it up...

$2,300 is a lot of money...

I built something similar for about $600. GuitarFetish body, everything else is Fender. Pups are TexMex's
