New bells and whistles to the same basic Ultra concept....Yawn. Perhaps their promo of "Never play a Fender the same way again" was a bit over the top on this one?

They seem to be taking things back -- no more ebony fingerboard, no truss wheel.

I was hoping for SS frets to make it to Fender, but nope.

Very, particularly the "new electronics" part:rolleyes:. All models now have a treble bleed circuit, and actually the 2 Strat models are way stripped down electronically from their predecessors - the Elites (and also American Deluxes from 2004-2015) had 5 extra wiring schemes when you pressed the S-1 switch; now on the SSS Strat the S-1 just adds the neck pickup (so positions 1 is neck/bridge and position 2 is all 3 pickups); on the HSS Strat the S-1 is just a coil split for the humbucker (which is no longer a Shawbucker; it's either the same humbucker as on the American Performer HSS Strat or a new variation of the American Performer's humbucker).

The Jazzmaster does look kind of cool though - and has unique wiring different from the other Jazzmasters in Fender's lineup. I was kind of hoping for a Jaguar in the new Ultra series, but not this time.

Remember the ebony fingerboard was in reaction to the 2017 CITES rosewood regulations, which were rolled back earlier this year. The Elites had rosewood fingerboards from their introduction in January 2016 until April/May/June-ish 2017.

And some people bitched hard about the truss rod wheel - which I like (having had several EBMMs over the years) but still have to admit that Fender's implementation isn't as elegant as EBMMs; it was the same as how Peavey did the wheel on the Wolfgangs and a few other models that came out after the Wolfgang.

I just hope they don't call a future series that will (inevitably) replace the Elites, now Ultras, in this never ending marketing ,the "Fabulous Superlatives"!!! That would be a travesty to Marty and company...

If they used rosewood fretboards as dark and rich looking as the ones on the CS models I would get one of these.

I would also like the CS RSD bridge with the compensated brass saddles.

I guess in other words, a $2K Custom Shop Tele is what I would buy. These Ultras are missing the wow factor for me.

I do like the way that Texas Tea looks with the aluminum guard, and I think the side mounted jack on the Jazz is a nice touch.

I played a Tele Ultra today in the store...here are my thoughts:
The contoured heel and cutaway is nice ...its pretty much a direct copy from Suhr, as the heel is thinned out as well. Its comfortable.
The neck is a little slimmer in hand than the Elites...too thin for me.
The pickups were ok. Kind of sterile and anemic sounding.
The particular color scheme I played was sweet...metallic black with white binding, a neat brushed steel pickguard and dark rosewood board looked awesome.

When it comes to superlatives, Fender is unparalleled.

For two grand, you’re going to tell me which fingerboard I can have for each finish?

Now, where did I put that middle finger emoji? I know it’s here somewhere.

Seriously, man. We’re nipping around the edges of used custom shop Tele prices.

Yeah apart from the blue I think they've gone backwards in their colour offerings. To have that only offered in maple is well disappointing.
