Hiya chaps n chappesses.
I'm not posting because I HAVE the problem. I'm posting because I have the SOLUTION/WORKAROUND.
Maybe, it's already been discussed or you may have seen my posts on other boards...
If you're running a Focusrite Scarlett with an AMD cpu system, using the "latest driver", I'm fairly confident you'll be experiencing crackling on playback of recordings, very likely on youtube, and any other media played through it.
No amount of tweeking is going to sort it out.
You NEED to uninstall the Focusrite software and install a version 2.xx driver. It's been an issue since the version 3.xx driver, Focusrite knows about it and haven't managed to fix it.
To be honest, I don't think the usb driver has changed since 2018, but they made a significant change to the Control software...
Anyway, anyone having issues, can't find a v2.xx driver, I've posted the most recent driver I have been using with no problems here

Hope it helps.
As far as I know, this is not an issue for Intel systems.
Cheers

Interesting. I was having similar issues under the intel platform and I found a different solution.

My issue was this: browser and Spotify audio worked great from a fresh reboot. However when launching Ableton Live, Adobe Premiere/After Effects (apps that ‘took control’ of my Scarlett) it would change the buffer size to 1024 every time and introduce crackling.

The latest driver seems to have fixed it but prior to this I had the focus rite device settings shortcut on my taskbar and launched that after launch any of the offending apps and I’d knock the buffer size back down to 128 or 256 to clear up all the issues. YMMV.

Yeah?
How I came about the AMD fix was I was away from home for several months last year. When I got back, I went though my PC updating stuff. Updated W10 from 1809 to 1903...All good, but was reading about how the 1903 update had buggered peoples audio. No issues with mine, anyway, went and got the latest FR driver, and that screwed it.
The circumstances of my absence meant I had several versions of the driver, that I hadn't had time to install. That was on an FX8350 based system, which was performing faultlessly.
Then, back in May, I built a new system, 3700x/x570, and spent a morning going through the FR drivers to find the point at which they became problematic.
FWIW, it only seems to be a playback issue, and doesn't 'print' crackling in recordings, ie output issue only.

I run an AMD laptop, the latest version of Windoze 10 (20H2) and Focusrite 4.65.5.658 drivers, no crackling here.

It's not specifically the driver, but the Control software that the multichannel interfaces come with. It doesn't seem to affect 2i2s and Solos.

Maybe you should have specified which Focusrite unit you were using in your first post. ;)

Quick update from my side...
Tried the latest version again this morning, except this time it also installed a furmware update.
All seems good, so far, so I'm going to remove my link and file.
Cheers
