Being the same age as those records, I missed ARA when they were first out. Heard "Third Rate Romance" a couple of times on satellite radio, but that's about it. Some of their stuff is on par with the best of Marshall Tucker Band and the like.
How did I miss that ???

Check out the great vibe and Strat tones on this little gem :

Amazing Rhythm Aces were the first country band I every really enjoyed, that was over 30 years ago, and I still love to listen to them. Spirit Walk really gets to me !

I loved em' in da day.
The song writing (H . Russell Smith) and guitar playing (Barry "Byrd" Burton) were superlative.
"Out In The Snow" is a great, old-timey kind of tune.
Way more spin on the ball than the Tuckers, IMO.

I had that on an 8-track K-tel compilation when I was a kid. "Third-rate romance, low-rent rendezvous..." Perfect for a 10-year-old.

I had all thier LP's in the 70's. I really liked them, but my wife at the time thought I played them too much. I've got most of thier stuff on CD now.

Hey Waylon Fan , check out Barry Byrd Burton :
(link removed)
He is one of my favorite players , he gave ARA a big boost , he also played with a lot of other greats , We miss him but his tunes will kept him alive . He did one solo Album "Byrd Bryanz" , no long in production .

I loved this band in the 70's when the line-up was Russell Smith, Barry Burton, Billy Earhart III, Jeff Davis, James Hooker & Butch McDade. Too Stuffed To Jump & Burning The Ballroom Down are great albums. Burton's guitar & Smith's songs were a winning combination. I saw them live about 5 years ago with Smith & Earhart (the rest of the band was new members) .... not so good. They really needed Burton to make the band work.

Several years after the Aces were no more I was driving and heard a song clearly by Russell Smith that I didn't know. I pulled over and listened and the DJ said it was called "Three Piece Suit". I high-tailed it to the local record store and flipped through that huge book (actual paper) and found the song, it was to be on a as yet unreleased album called "This Little Town". I put in my pre-order and waited many weeks. When the album came out it was pretty darn good, but didn't include the song that made me buy it. Still haven't found that darn song.....

I just learned 3 r romance. Great tune. Love the guitar work on that one. Anybody know what guitar/amp was used? Sounds a little like a strat, but I'm no expert.
