No, I am not talking about the dam chip. Though very interesting. My lease is up on my Hyundai Sante Fe. Looking at new choices, I am befuddled. it seem every new vehicle uses the front grill as the bumper. Besides it protruding out of the front of the vehicle, I see issue with $500 worth of damage for a tap. Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, seems they all have it. SUV's or sedans. Anyone else notice this? AM I missing some logic why this is better?

It's part of new safety standards for pedestrian accidents. It was driven out of Euro standards but now covers cars everywhere.

I got a lot of issues with new cars, but the grille sticking out too much is a new one to me.

Love new cars. IMO, they've never been built better.

The biggest problem I have is all the distracting electronics that are on modern dashboards. As if people didn't have enough problem paying attention to what they are doing.

The one on my Tucson functions perfectly. Even to the point that the pressure it's read for a given tire matches the reading I get from an old school tire guage.

Who wants a hideous rubber bumper these days? Get rid of the lease and buy a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim. All kinds of rubber bumpers to hit things.

I totally agree. When buying both of my Mazdas, I said no to the control screen 'upgrade'. And I'm still alive as a result.

the feature i HATE is the auto shut off at the stop light deal. i don't want my car to turn off and have to restart every time i tap the brake and then the accelerator.

another gripe is the 'infotainment' screen. its reflective on almost all vehicles. a large, reflective surface on the dashboard is NOT helpful... especially so when the setting sun is in your rearview mirror.

Agree, but there's nothing to be done about it.

First of all, $500? Try $2K for bashing your bumper and grill nowadays. I'm sure part of the thinking is that it'll total more cars due to added expense, and then they'll get to sell more new cars. Sadly it's the state of our corporate world nowadays. They make cars so people can't work on them themselves, and then they charge ridiculous prices to repair them.
