I started putting this Thinline together about 2 years ago and resurrected it to finish it up. I started with an unfinished Walnut body w. bookmatched burl walnut top and Fender Walnut neck. I put in Filtertron pickups with Bourns no-load mini-pots and orange drop caps. Tuners are staggered locking Hipshots and the bridge is a Hipshot clone with brass saddles.

I veneered the headstock face with burl walnut veneer to match the body. I must have moved the veneer around for 15 minutes just to get it so the top and side grain matched up. It's a small detail I am especially proud of. The speed knobs and pickup rings were ordered clear and I back-painted them with a shade of bronze I mixed up to match the bridge saddles. I also went modular on all the connections, doing all the soldering outside the body and making it plug and play. I just couldn't go near that body with a soldering iron after all that lacquer, wet sanding and hand buffing lol

Let me know what you think. It's not a player yet, I need to do a full setup and work out some high fretboard low bridge issues (needs longer saddle height screws).

Whoa dude, that is STUNNING! I love the look of walnut on guitars. And great job on the hs - looks amazing! I love matching head stocks when beautiful wood is used on the body. Did the same on my recently finished Redwood burl Veneer Tele build.

I'd love to see that. I am a big fan of Vavona Burl (CA Redwood Burl), here is a Strat pickguard I had made of it. A friend initially laminated the headstock and a pickguard with walnut veneer. I provided a maple pickguard core and it unfortunately curled like a potato chip. I pressed it flat and installed but it again curled and split.

I was tired of tortoise so I had another source laminate the Vavona Burl to a better substrate. It is just gorgeous. I even faux grained the pickup covers and switch tip to match. I may do the headstock over in the matching redwood some day as I have had good success with my technique (pre-arch with steam, glue and clamp with a caul).

    Love those pups!

Here’s a couple of shots, and build thread and more details here:-

    https://www.tdpri.com/threads/redwood-veneer-telecaster.1009641/

I’ve yet to do a final photo shoot for the thread, and final set up etc on the guitar, but as it is, it plays and sounds fantastic! It’s my first real Tele too, so I couldn’t be happier with it.
