Early Chicago was pretty strong rock music that had soul and blues in it. I think the Crickets are up there, Booker T and the MGs for sure are there. The Dead, and the Allman Brothers arw great bands, defintately an all time sound. Realitively new comers in this conversation but the best live band from the USA right now are Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Of the US RnR bands I got to see live in the 60s, I would have to agree with those who say The Doors and NRBQ, and of course, The Beach Boys.
