    thefees, good story. but the people you read who blamed the tuners were wrong, as you found out. don't perpetuate the myth that tuners have anything to do with tuning;)

    Buy used and you can do the classic vibe and the Mustang II and that's about as good as you can get. She needs to try out some guitars first to see what's most comfortable. She won't end up playing much if it's not comfortable to her.

    +1 on trying out a lot of guitars and would also recommend saving up or buying used "Classic Vibe". It's a lot more guitar for a little bit more.
    I also, agree the amp is important. I wouldn't want to talk you out of the Fender Mustang's as they have been getting great press, but if you can find a Vox Pathfinder15R to try out, (about $120 retail but GC never seems to have one around), this is also a very good bang for the buck item.
