I think that there is a lot to be discussed with this one.

ZZZZZZzzzzzzz. I guess this is supposed to be clever or camp or something, on their part, but it's a boring retread, musically. And wow, do they fail to deliver the drive of even basic surf music. And the non-surf original was infinitely better and, heaven knows, way more sincere.

Can you name any song where the surf version is better?

Dick Dale had a knack for it, unless you would listen to a traditional version of “Hava Nagila” in your car:

“Ghost riders in the Sky” also comes as close as I can immediately think of:

Also I’m in love with the Blonde guitarist. And the other guitarist. And the Bassist. And the drummer...

I plan on buying one ring and asking each one until someone says yes. Tragically, this is still not the worst plan I’ve ever concocted...

I love the original version of Runaway but this is good too.

The Surfrajettes are awesome! I wish they would release an album.

I guess this means you would not like the acoustic duo version I concocted.

The song was originally written as a country song, so I guess the Electric Prunes really screwed it up.

    I think I see a few non-Mosrite guitars there.

In addition to the ones above-

    Original (or traditional) version:

    Surf version:

There aren't all that many classic surf songs that are covers that come to mind other than the Dick Dale ones here. One could point to the Ventures who covered everthing but as much as I like them, I've never considered them "surf". I see them more as a "combo" particulaly because they never used the reverb units.

    I think they're great.

People taking surf music 'seriously' are missing the point.
