    He was the Box Tops lead singer? I met him in a bar in Durango, CO in 1969 . . . really nice and polite young man. Great gravelly voice!

    Hate to admit it, but I wasn't truly aware of who he was until The Replacements came out with this in the '80s and then I took notice:

    I always keep all three Big Star cds in my car, and couple compilations of solo Chilton stuff.

    I always liked their cover of "Duke Of Earl"

    Somehow he completely stopped doing the "gravelly voice" thing after The Box Tops.

    I go through a little town in the North of Alabama (Town Creek I think) and there's a failed super market building there with the Big Star sign out front on the highway. It starts the Chilton/Bell discography going between my ears for sure!

    I have a red haired friend who was (she says) engaged to Chris at one time. I owe her a telephone call.
