In A Silent Way
We're Only in It for the Money - Mothers of Invention. Rolling Stone raved about it. Bought it. Hated it.
I could never enjoy Prince. I still don't understand his appeal, but other people's taste always surprises me.
Are you hung up?
Yeah I love Frank Zappa up to a point, however I long ago gave up trying to "turn people onto" him. Most of it is not what you would call relaxing toe tapping stuff, unless you have 7 toes on one foot and 11 on the other.
Some of my best friends including my wife are into Zappa though.
Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert
Janet Jackson, The Velvet Rope. I had this one recommended to me by a mega fan. It is sadly, coldly awful. It is so bad that the electric field from it sucking actually shuts computers down.
Joni Mitchell, Travelogue.
I never payed much attention to him either, but this made me sit up a little.
I disagree, but you're far from alone. It pretty much flopped at release.
Greg Kihn Band "Kihnspiracy" and "Kihntagious" were so-so, "Fukihnawful" was supposed to be the best thing since toasted bread, but it just didn't deliver the goods....
HUGE Bowie fan, and while I agree it’s not his most listenable or upbeat, it certainly was timely and prescient.
GnR Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 and Lies
Appetite still is amazing. Oddly I really enjoyed The Spaghetti Incident. But all the rest you can have. If I never hear Patience again it will be too damn soon.
This is pretty bad stuff....
They were supposedly THE psychedelic band in Frisco at the time but among a boat load of awful albums that came out of the era THIS is one of the worst!
And I'm a Dead Fan!
Civil War is a great song though!
And this is a killer track too!
Not a HUGE fan, but these tracks really made me think AXL is a real artist, and of course the guitar is slick!
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
He had slash and buckethead at his beck and call.. and some unknown named Robert Finck lays down the best solo on a GNR album... Geesh that dude can play.
The last 5 McCartney albums...
The last 5 Rolling Stones albums...
The last 5 Clapton albums...
You get the idea...
Crazy, I love many and perhaps most of these albums. Suppose I just don't think too hard about why things that don't grab should be considered bad.
There is just so much music that has passed through my life, I could never come up with any kind of real list. I do remember buying and despising REMs “grunge” album (what’s the frequency Kenneth one) and really hating Siamese Dream and a few others from that era. Of course I was paying about $35 per cd in today’s dollars. These days I don’t buy anything I haven’t already listened to a bit, and I pay no attention to the radio or magazines so that helps.
Any Led Zeppelin album with Robert Plant. His lips should have been sewn together a long time ago.
