I absolutely love Albert King. Personal Manager is in my top 3 favorite solos of all time. IMO though, his production wasn't always great and his guitar can sound thin at times, but when his tone is really dialed in, man, it stops me in my tracks!

The first phrase he plays after his speech from 2:30-2:33 just slays me. I've rewound it over and over at times.

I can also HIGHLY recommend this book:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/0634033026/?tag=tdpri-20

It's a little confusing bc it's transcribed in Albert's tuning, so if you want to play on a normal guitar you have to transpose it yourself, which for me got confusing at times. And I only did a few sections.

One surprising thing from the book is that he doesn't play in the "Albert King box" as much as I expected. He plays the root on the high E a lot instead of further up the neck on the B string in a lot of cases.

I used to sit with his records and try to bend like that...wondering, How does he DO that?!?!?
And often with his index finger alone?!?!?
He must have the strongest hands on earth!
We Blues hounds used to pass around a lot of cassettes...some very crappy and several generations...so we often didn't see pictures of people.
It was a revelation when I found out Albert King and Otis Rush played bass ackwards.
And Freddie played with 2 right hand fingers...etc.

Does anyone know how to get his sound with a Tele, Fender Champion 20 amp and Ibenaz Tube Screamer? All settings welcomed. First I need his sound, then I’ll take a lifetime to work on his bends and phrasing’s.
Thanks?
