Hey all,

Planning my first partscaster build. I'm a huge fan of the deep C shape - wondering if anyone can tell me an aftermarket neck that gets pretty close. I'm trying to keep the cost down which is why I'm not going with a Fender at this point. Also looking forward to doing my own finishing on the frets and the wood itself.

I know on paper a lot of the C shapes seem to spec out similar but wondering if anyone has hands-on experience and can point me to a similar neck.

Thanks for any help!

I don't know what the specific specs you're looking for, but personally I've had good luck with Allparts necks. I've used em a few times now and I think they're about the best bang for the $ out there IMO. You might check some of em out and compare with the specs you're looking for, and see if they got something close for you. Good luck on your build man! It's an enjoyable experience and you'll learn a ton ;)

I steer clear of using the "description" of neck shapes & thickness' like "Deep C" as they can be misleading. The American Professional II is described as having a "Deep C" but I'd call it more like a "Medium C".

Take a look at the Wildwood Guitars inventory of the Am Pro II. They put in specific measurements at the 1st and 12th frets for each stocked guitar. As you'll see they seem to range, on average, from .80-.84, with most being .81-.82 at 1st fret and .90-.95 with most at .91-.93 at 12th fret.

I have a Medium C that is .84/.93 that feels just right to me that came from an aftermarket neck maker.
Most of these after market neck suppliers have 30 day return policies. I'd consider the re-stocking and/or return shipping costs to be cheap insurance.

Good luck.

I have 4 Allparts necks, all very good. Their "baseball bat" profile is as thick as you'll get: 1" straight down. I believe the 2 of that profile that I have are 10" radius and frets I'd compare to 6105's. Unless specified as thin or slim I think most Allparts neck are fairly substantial in the thickness dept.

Appreciate all the responses - I'm pleasantly surprised about the Allparts suggestions as I've been looking pretty closely at those.

I definitely could give Warmoth a call as well - that makes sense!

Aside from Allparts I've had good luck with Warmoth and Musikraft, the latter being one I'll likely go to next because of their versatile neck profiles that aren't upcharged.

I have a Deep C-feeling Musicraft neck with heavy rolled fretboard edges. Feels outstanding, however the frets all have sharp edges. As in so sharp I'm probably going to just sell it. It would take more time and effort to smooth them out than I care to spend. I plan to replace it with another Deep C/rolled edge feel but really want to keep the 70's headstock, like my Tele Am II with two humbuckers.
I have to say, the HH American Tele II has the best neck I've played, tied with a Custom Shop Strat 60's neck. I was able to find a new Strat Deep C for my Strat at a decent price, I figure sooner or later I'll find another.

edit: I currently have the Musicraft Deep C neck on a Jazzmaster. I'll be on the lookout for another Fender Strat deep C for sure.

I just got in a Musickraft neck to replace the neck on an old Strat. What I sent the original neck to the guys at Musickraft, and then, over the phone went over it, detail by detail to make sure it was absolutely, using precisely the same materials, and more importantly, the exact profile. This was an old Texas special with a very slim neck that I absolutely adore. We changed a few things. We made it with a big old 70s style head stock with the bullet truss rod and we did a compound radius. The finish was a very thin light coating of nitro which feels fabulous. That said, when doing the crown and level all the frets were popping up which I found to be disappointing. But overall I give it a really high rating as a neck. Definitely, without a doubt changed the character of the guitar. It is still punchy, but there is a transparency in the tone that was not there before. Honestly, I was never sure how much I believed that much about how much the neck changes the tone. But I am a true believer now.
