Sorry if you already answer this but I didn't read thru all the responses--How much are you looking to spend?

    The answer is...Filtertrons!
    Or P90s.

Seriously a Tele is really all you need.
    Get yourself a killer amp.

Let me start by saying, keep the acoustic. It's not part of the equation.

Having said that, I've sold all my electrics except two Tele's.
Lots of Strats, a Jaguar, a few Ibanez (Ibanii?) a couple HH guitars of various make, all went and I don't miss any of them
I'm considering selling one of the Teles as well.

Regardless, my answer for a second guitar behind a Tele is a Les Paul Junior.
And FWIW, I've never owned a Jr. I just love the ethos.

I think everyone should have a tele, a gretsch, a strat, a les paul, and some kind of jazz guitar.

Also, an inexpensive bass from squier is a lot of fun

I feel Beyer160 is right. Go into someplace like Guitar Center that has a bunch of guitars and play a variety of them.

I would get a Classic Player 60s Strat as second guitar

My second electric was another Tele because you always need a backup Tele.

But my third electric is a Jazzmaster because it is different from my Teles in so many ways: shape, length, contours, pickup style, control complexity, and a great tremolo system.

I think Strats are beautiful but not for me. Never Gibson. PRS meh. I’ve tried so many other brands and models and nothing inspires me like a Tele. I’m giving the Jazzmaster a chance because it’s so cool.

However, if I ultimately end up with 5-6 Teles I would love it.

Actually, I want an hollow or semi hollow guitar because I have back pain and I think something lighter would help me! (Though my own Tele is rather light compared to others because some are boat anchors!)

So, comfort is important too when playing. Sometimes, just switching from one guitar to a different one brings relief!

    Edit:

Oups! What did I just do... I just gave most people a major reason - a health related reason - to spend precious money on one more guitar... Sorry about that! Don't shoot the messenger!

Officially closing this thread out :).

I wa in a local shop and noticed that they carried Reverends (I had not been familiar with the brand) and decided that the Flatroc was for me.

I have been practicing more and it's fun to switch back and forth between it and the Tele.

Someone already mentioned a LP JR.

Personally I'd go with a LP Special [w/a stop tail bridge] for the neck pup.

SG Specials have the neck P90 in a different location and while it worked for Pete I'm not a believer.

To me a Special sounds close to a tele but with a fatter midrange ...and more au_thor_i_tae! [Think Cartman].

So for your 3rd electric : a Gretsch. That's an evidence... No? :)

I'm late to the P-90 bandwagon, but very glad I joined.
