How smooth is the base? If it is cast iron, and rough, then forget my last suggestion to use gloss black. High gloss requires a smooth base to look good. I'm thinking you'd have the same issue with chrome. Of course, you can always try it and paint over it if it doesn't look good. I'm still thinking black goes best with the chrome, hammered or flat.

But here are some period colors that might work too.

No, but I don't recall exactly what it was a stand for. I may have bought it just as it is, for the cool cast iron base. It's been a long time.

A bit heavy and unbalanced, for when you are twirling it in the air, like Rod Stewart. Perfectly good, for leaning on sideways, á la Steven Tyler.

We will need action photography, at some point......;):rolleyes::D

It's a bit of a bee-otch to use if you have a guitar hanging off the front of you. It tends to bonk into the mic pole.

For an unobtrusive but incredible finish (on pedals) I do a burst or gradient that goes from flat black through satin to gloss, and with the black itself changing to become translucent with a little candy/flake/pearl to it. It just looks black -- until you notice. I have a wah I built that got this treatment. Obviously, it doesn't photograph.

I like the hammertone idea, maybe copper or green. Rustoleum makes a few different colors. That wrinkle paint is too hard to keep clean, IMO. If all else fails, you could paint toenails on it.

I'm leaning towards one of the hammertone finishes, maybe silver.

If it sucks, I can always repaint it.

I've got an old mic stand that my Dad used in the 50's/60's for his dance/parties DJ hobby.... I still use it these days...

one of the few mementos I have from then..

I did know this. There was a cartoon - I believe on Captain Kangaroo - that had space aliens from the planet Munimula, way back a half century or so ago when I was a little one.

For the record, I suggest Seafoam or light blue with cream pinstriping.

    That thing just Oozes Cool!
Just my two-cents: do the base in a black powder coat, have the stem and trim Chromed.

    Can't loose with that one.
