I've had this cast iron base for at least twenty years. I don't remember what it came from, but it would make a great 'atomic' base for a mic stand, especially for my new Shure 55SH.

It shouldn't be a big deal to fit the chrome mic pole into it after a little trip to Hardware Hank for a few screwy bits and some washers.

I dragged it out of our backyard shed this afternoon and brought it into the house after remembering it.

A bit of cleanup, a new coat of some retro-delicious spray paint, and I'll probably have the snappiest retro microphone and stand this side of the Missouri River.

A mic stand that could double as a weapon if needed? I'm all for it!

I wonder what color to spray paint it?

Of course, a satin black would look very nice, and wouldn't unnecessarily draw the eye to it, but perhaps it should stand out (see what I did there?.."stand out") and be obvious.

    Seafoam green or pelham blue.
With "delicate" pinstriping. Not too gaudy.

Or a matte gold, not too far from its current patina.
For some reason I see gold w/a glossy black ring around the pole base.

But then theres the true classic. Chrome that sucka!

Some kinda louvered trim on the pole.
24" of chrome 2.5" tubing with Buick portholes. ...

Whatever you do, just be sure to "address" the mic with an appropriate cocktail tumbler and lit cig in one hand, and a fedora hat.

Might as well keep it—from the look of it, if you tried to throw it away, it would just come back.

    I second this idea.
Seafoam or Light Blue on the bottom, with Cream or white on the top, like an old Tri-5 Chevy.

As long as it's a proper thin-skin coat of lacquer, so the base can continue to "breathe", I'm sure it'll serve nobly as a part of the toan-chain. ;)
Honestly; it looks great - enjoy it.
    Peace - Deeve

You can get that paint that gets wrinkly when it dries ... like those old toolboxes from the 50s.

That's the expensive route, but a possibility.

Can cast iron even be chromed?.

I could buff it out and then clear-coat it to prevent it from rusting.

No Fedora or porkpie 'blooze daddy' toppings for me. I might be able to pull off wearing one of those english newsboy style caps, but even that would be a stretch.

    It's highly polished aluminum.

Did you know that 'aluminum' spoken backwards is pronounced 'moo-nee-moo-lah'?
