I went to Miami University in the late 80s when they were starting out down the road in Cinci. We used to see them at house parties on campus. I had a band with some frat brothers and we once played at an Anti-Apartheid concert that they headlined. That's my claim to fame.

Haven't heard them in a long while. Great unique band among many back then. "One of those alternative bands that the kids just love." Something like that, I suppose. A better description probably would have been, "Classy, trashy".

A year or so ago someone on Cincinnati CL had a bass cab John Curley supposedly used at some point for sale. It had Afghan Whigs tour stenciled on the side.

I'm not one for collecting large cabs, as I'm mainly a basement noodler nowadays. But that would have been effing cool to have.

I'm a huge fan but they can be really depressing, perhaps even more than Ryan Adams. Gentleman was my favorite album by them, but if I had heard it at my lowest point during a divorce, I might not be here now. Their BEST cover:
