    Hello,
Have a trade offer on the table for my relic for a american vintage plus 500.00

Worth trading or just keep the relic ?

They both are pretty much new

Both have hard cases and case goodies

I have a CS Nocaster Relic and a 52 AVRI Hot Rod. It would take a lot more than $500 and the Hot Rod to get my Nocaster.

The Hot Rod is really good, the CS Nocaster is a forever guitar.

I have both, a custom shop and a few AV guitars. The AV’s to me are the best production fenders out there as far as a reissue.

That said I would not trade a custom shop anything for a AV unless I was get at least 3 times that $500 cash offer on top.

You beat me to it, totally agree as I pretty much posted the same thing. The AV’s are so good but the CS stuff(depending) is just a step or so above.

That Gibson is pretty cool also. The custom shop tele you have would be a keeper for me. The colour and a rosewood board, perfect.

I can't stress this enough....DO NOT SELL YOUR RELIC. The guy wanting the trade will think he has won the lottery! Yikes....No way.

Can't argue w/ that - my avatar (sortacaster) is in my arms more often than my LPC.
If somebody wanted my Norlin boat-anchor, I'd sit & listen carefully.

    Peace - Deeve

Play both, choose the guitar that speaks to you...if not sure, then don't act.

I am not into the relic thing, but I have never played anything from the custom shop that didn't feel, play, or sound good. If you one and like it, keep it!

If you don't love the Custom shop tele, maybe.

Haggle a bit on the cash portion if it's too low (I don't know relative value of each).

I've played many Custom shop and owned 2 or 3 (briefly). Always got them used. Didn't seem any different to me than an AV in terms of quality of woods and components.

Just different finish options and maybe different colors than production line.

I get any guitar setup at my local shop to my preferences anyway, so any setup differences stock v. custom shop are erased.

If it was LITERALLY any other AV, I'd say go for it. I think AVs are as good as CS NOSs, and will be collectible and valuable some day...and I think Relics are dumb, and people are finally going to realize that some day.

But the BSB '52? Boooooooooring. There are few Teles more ugly to me than a BSB blackguard.

That said, I might do the trade, and overspray the BSB with something cooler. Like Arctic White.

P.S. I am assuming that you are using the term "AV" correctly, i.e. to refer to late 2012–2017 American reissue line made on the standard production line. If you are actually talking about an AVRI or earlier, then no way I'd do the trade. Those were fine guitars, but the finishes were nowhere near as nice, and they were made in MUCH higher numbers.

I've owned both. I prefer the pre-2012. Including the finish. I like to see the grain. And I don't baby my guitars but don't appreciate how the post 2012 finish falls off if you look at an edge wrong.

Relics have been around since the 90’s so I would hold my breathe waiting for people to realize it’s not a fad.

I have a 57 Strat AV that I bought years ago and lucked out that it had signed AY pups in it! I will part with it when I can't play anymore... there's nothing I would trade it for except... maybe... an original 57 ;)
