Hi, I am starting to create my own music and would like to include drums and bass to play over. The aim might be to hit a recording studio at some point, but I'm a long way off that! What is the most affordable way to create a drum track or use an existing one using software? (Sadly I don't know any drummers!).

I can probably get round the bass by using my Tele on the neck pickup and all the tone rolled off.

Thanks in advance

Try EZ Drummer. It's very intuitive and you can build a good drum track just puting "bricks" together, no need to learn how to program a drum machine if you don't want to do it. You can also use it as a stand alone software if you want.

I went through all of the different frustrating options for years (I'm not a drummer either) until I found EZ Drummer2. You will need some sort of MIDI input device like my 25 key keyboard to make it easy on yourself.

You won't be happy with bass lines from your Tele neck pickup, trust me. Better to save up for an inexpensive bass (the short-scale 3/4 size works great for guitar players).

Thanks for the suggestions. Drums are the important bit. I will try Band in a Box and EZ Drummer. I'm using a Windows PC, and have Audacity.

EZD is excellent, I'm a longtime fan and current user. But BIAB will get you over the hump with bass and other backup. Really depends on whether your goal is to put out tunes quickly (BIAB) or learn the studio process so you can stretch the limits of your imagination (EZD or the drum software of your choice *plus* either an actual bass or MIDI bass samples — both can be effective).

In a pinch, MIDI bass will get you a lot farther than using your Tele. Almost all DAWs have some provision for doing this. If you tell us what you're recording in, it'll be easier to get specific advice. ;)

+1 for Band In A Box. Here's a Band In A Box example, Maybellene in key of E. I brought in the tracks one at a time. It sits on the E for the whole verse so you can get the variations of the patterns for the various instruments.
