Hey guys,

Just brought out my old acoustic for the first time in a couple years. It was my first guitar, a $99 or $199 Fender acoustic. Not sure about the exact cost, as it was a Christmas gift when I was 13. I could never really bend on that thing and I didn't know why. Now that I look at it it has a LOOONG neck....almost certainly a 25.5 scale length. Why would anyone do this!? Are there other guys out there with acoustics like this?

[This isn't even to mention the too-big body which cuts into my ribs as I play)

Martin, which is considered the standard in the industry, uses the 25.5 scale ... Leo Fender copied this on his guitars to make them feel more familiar to prospective buyers, who logically, would be acoustic players ...

Larrivée makes excellent acoustic guitars. They are 25 1/2" scale except for the odd guitar, but unfortunately my favourite Larrivée is the wider-necked "fingerstyle", which has a 24 3/4" scale. Durn.

My Collings 0002H is a 25.5 in. neck and I prefer the longer scale over Gibson 24.75 in. scale necks. I really like the slightly added tension because it works better with my technique.

I tend to like the 25.5" scale best as I do a fair amount of alternate tunings and feel to drop to D or lower, a longer scale helps you get there.

Of my 4 acoustics that I play only my 1964 Gibson LG1 has a short scale neck. My Taylor is 25.5 and my Gibson Advanced Jumbo (unique for Gibson acoustics) is also 25.5". My old Framus 12 string I am certain is as well.

The Epiphone version of John Lennon's Gibson acoustic is 25.5 scale length. It is a dog to play. I have a number of 25.5 scale guitars that are a dream to play, but this 25.5 Epiphone sure isn't.

Larrivée was originally a Canadian acoustic guitar maker from Toronto, since moved to British Columbia and now with a factory in California. The acoustics are stunning, especially the smaller "parlour" sizes. Just recently they have also been manufacturing some "familiar" shaped solid bodies...

Mmmm... Jeff Traugott fan neck. I think the bass string is around 27".

Just think 25k+ and your first child will get you this guitar. :neutral:pricey but they do play nice.
I recently had an opportunity to play a L09 L'arrivee, nice little box, reasonable price, on consignment in a local shop.

If you like to play in alt. tunings 25.5 is a good scale length to use.
