Don't know if this has been brought up previously, I was inspired by the similar thread about acclaimed bands.
I have tried and never managed to appreciate:
    Al di Meola
    John McLauglin
    Allan Holdsworth
This is posted for the sake of conversation, with all respect etc.
Also, among the recent (80s and after)guitar gods I can only stand Satriani

I love all 3 of the above and have for some time. If you ever get a chance to hear the album Friday Night in San Francisco with Al, John and Paco do so.
However I have never been inspired by Yngwie Malmsteen, Satriani or Steve Vai so what the hell do I know.

Malmstien (or however you spell it), I mean ok he's a great guitarist but I don't wanna listen to all that crap. As a matter of fact "technical" guitar players in general I don't get, I mean I get that they are very good but I gotta listen to music with some feel or soul!

I can understand Mclaughlin and Holdsworth; although I'm a big fan of both, their stuff can be out there or has a bit of a barrier of entry. But I feel like most of Al diMeola's catalogue is pretty palletable / mainstream? especially his flamenco-ish stuff. So is it just the speed that turns you off?

I tend not to notice, when someone isn't my cup of tea, I just concentrate on those who are.

It isn't that I don't care - it is more like I just don't even know.

I find out "later" about some guitarist being in someone's Top Five or something, but I learn about it 10 years too late.

There's so many fantastic guitarists - almost too many to listen to and get to know all of them. And I have to practice some time, don't I? Not enough time to dwell on those we don't get.

I don't much like songs that exist so the guitar can wail.

I like songs that have guitar parts, but don't need them, necessarily.

So; guitar as the driver, no thanks. Guitar in the service of a song, fine.

You can probably fill in names from there.

Any shredder. I probably dislike more guitar players than I like. Well, I don't dislike the guitar player but their style.

Oh, I meant Francisco Tarrega with his silly Nokia tune. He can't be a member here, he plays a classical.

Unfortunately, Jeff Beck. A great player and I have gone to see him twice live and still can't find the path. Last time, it was his bass player, Rhonda Smith that stoled the show for me. Maybe he just doesn't leave enough breathing space in his songs.
