How many of you guys own A LOT of pedals that you're no longer using, and have been gathering dust for years?

I gigged for about 28 years, and retired from playing in 2009.

Starting in about 2000 or so I went CRAZY buying and selling A LOT of pedals, and now they're all in boxes inside a large plastic bin.

My son took a few for his board, but I still have about 24 that most likely never be used again.

    Here's my list:

    Boss :
    1. Harmonizer HR-2
    2. Compressor CS-2
    3. Chorus CE-2
    4. Phaser PH-1r

    Barber
    5. Direct Box
    6.Tone Pump

    Ibanez
    7. Tube Screamer TS-10
    8. Tube Screamer TS-9 Keeley Modded
    9.Analog Delay AD-9 Keeley Modded (80's )

    Pearl
    10. Overdrive OD-05
    11. Chorus Ch-02

    Misc. Pedals

    13. Menatone Dirty Blonde (early version)
    14. Earthquake Tone Job
    15. Amalgam Smooth Overdrive
    16. Bruce Bennett Brown Sound (1st version)
    17. Sub Decay Stupid Box (early version)
    18 Source Audio Soundbox 2
    19.Pigtronix Disnortion Micro
    20. Hotone Krush

    21. Dual Hermida Mosferatu
    22. Hermida Zendrive (1 of first 20 ever produced)
    23. Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive ( 2001 Flame Paint Job)
    24 Nobels ODR-1 (early 2001 Version)

Wow! That's more pedals than I have owned in my lifetime! I have always had little modeling amps or just plugged straight in to a two channel amp for my sound. I am just becoming converted to the gospel of pedals.

Well you certainly have some nice pedals. I’m sure you could get some good money on several of those if you opted to sell them.

I’ve been down that rabbit hole. I kept a list of all the pedals I’ve purchased over the years and in 2020 I surpassed 150. At the end of the day I think I’ve sold around 125 of them as I think I still have 24-25 pedals, 10 on my current pedalboard.

I’m finally content with the pedals I still have so I most likely won’t be purchasing any more.

Played the pedal game pretty hard over the last year. Buying and selling all kinds of stuff. I own a Marshall. No pedal is going to make it not sound like a Marshall and I bought it to sound like a Marshall. Kept an SD1 and a Spark boost. No more OD money wasted. I don’t play covers so I don’t need to recreate any sounds. Got a couple reverb pedals cause the reverb is weak on the amp. A tuner. That’s it.

I will say the Wampler Tumnus is a great pedal and I had a couple nice comps. And the Waza Chorus pedal is nice if you need chorus. But my Marshall, a boost and a reverb does all I need.

I wish I could get back the time I put into YouTube videos and buying/selling. And the money. Just to come back to “if it ain’t broke...”

I have three populated pedalboards and several pedals that still stick around but sometimes rotate in/out for various reasons.
    The current bench warmers are:

    Rat.
Early Boss MIJ DS-1 in really good shape
    Slightly Modded Boss DS-1
    Boss PS-5
Ibanez sound tank delay that sounds glorious but is as fragile as a worn out toy.
    Mxr Uni-Vibe (too dark)
    Mxr Dynacomp
    Mxr Carbon Copy
    Eh soul food
    Eh holy grail reverb
    Keely Red dirt mini
    Fulltone Octafuzz (limited use)
Fulltone Clyde Wah (only use a wah when absolutely necessary, not my thing)
Vox Ice 9. (Great TS clone, but too big)
    Xotic EP boost (2)
    Boss BF-2 Flanger
    Boss HM-2

You two ought to get together and have a very fun garage sale!

I probably have about 10 pedals, with about three that never leave their boxes, and haven't in years. I like to keep a simple effects chain. Those are some long lists up there. Pretty cool!

This is what happens when you buy a valve amp.

    NO.

This is what happens when you live on the pedal sections on many forums, and buy the "Flavor of the Month" pedals.

I have a few quality pedals ( good, just not expensive) that I'm not using now.

They are either just not good fits for my current amps, or for the music I'm playing ( I'm talking mainly dirt pedals here)
But things change (music, bands, gear, recording...) so I keep them around.

Sometimes I sell a pedal(s) on CL that I'm not using, then months or years later, I will see one on CL ( not my originals), and buy it again!

( usually not more than $50-75)

I used floor processors (Boss GT, Digitech RP) for 25 years, now I'm back to just a few pedals through a Boss Katana. Love it. Super light, easy to carry sounds convincing enough.

Had a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4x10, sounded awesome just super heavy and way too loud for most gigs.

I have the same problem with my SRRI. The 4x10 Jensons sound awesome when turned up to 5-6 outside. Doesn't work very well volume wise in really small churches or your grand parents living room.

I have a few quality pedals but I try to only buy what I need. My collection consists of the following

    Truetone/Visual Sound Route 66 v3
    EHX Hot Tubes
    EHX Bad Stone
    MXR Phase 90
    MXR Phase 95
MXR Carbon Copy (Just bought it. I needed a delay when we do Dire Straits and Brad Paisley)

The only other pedal I can think of that I may ever need is the Visual sound V2 Double Trouble.

The only reason I need anything other than the phaser is because the super Reverb as I'm, sure everyone knows is because it's almost impossible to overdrive it without a pedal.

That's not more pedals than I've owned in a lifetime, but certainly more than I've owned at the same time.

My complete pedalboard but I won't get rid of them. There will be a day when I need what I have and I don't want to pay the price to replace them.

Ha! Have you seen the original? It looked like the knob there except bigger and that was the whole thing, it’s squishy and you step on the “turd” to activate it

I think the fly controls the volume
