Two more suggestions:

Check the values of the dropping resistors on the high-voltage electrolytic cap circuit board. They are famous for being out of spec with heat and age. There is no penalty for making them 2 or 5 watt devices either.

And, speaking of wattage, make your plate resistors metal-film 1 watt jobs. They'll be quiet and cool.

If you use silver mica caps in the tone circuit and controls show up scratchy, check for DC on the downstream side of the caps. I've had a few brand-new, 500V silver micas leak DC on startup.
