Okay, I had time this morning to put the third one together so here it is.

I will let all three of them sit for a week or so with the string tension on the necks before I do the final set up. They all sound nice and feel great. This is a nice size for a travel guitar.

They weight 6.75 pounds each. I thought they would be a bit lighter than that... but that's oak for you.

I think I'll be making another one of these in the next year or so for my own grandson.

There is a music store here in town that sells a lot of student level guitars. They have a Jay Turser Strat style guitar in the window for $239.00

Next door to it there is a Walmart type store (Giant Tiger) with a very similar guitar of unknown name in the window for $99.00.

These guitars are simply beautiful...after getting the plans, I have to go back and re-think the neck / body area as mine is about 1/4 smaller than standard width. How did yours end up? Would you still make it wider? If you were to suggest a width what would it be?

Also that fretwire...was it from Bezdez? I was thinking about getting some from there, but their tang width seems off... 0.071"??? I have the Pax fret saw from LV, just wondering if it would work.

    Thanks,

    Gari

The strings are close to the edge up past the 12th fret, but its still playable. When I make the next one I will probably make the heel about 1/8" wider than the plan calls for. If I were you, I'd do the same.

I got the fretwire from Bezdez several years ago. Its not the same stuff they currently have listed. Its actually a bit smaller.

I can't comment on the tang width you stated above... I have the same saw as you and don't have any problems with any of the fretwire I have.

Since you did the filling with finish, was there any problem with it sinking in over time?

Just finished reading this entire thread and wow great job. Very inspiring. I am currently working on a full sized tele. With plans for another guitar after which I am going to build a neck from oak for. That is actually how I found this thread was by searching oak necks in google.
    Great stuff.
