As you probably know, EJ Strats came out in 2005. I read the glowing reviews and ordered one online. Then my buddy and I were out driving around and happened to see a Guitar Center. I said I wanted to go in and see if they had any EJs so I could get an idea of what I’d bought. Well, they had at least a dozen. I played 2 or 3 and then I picked up a sunburst one and... the tone was amazing. It was deeper, mellower, and more resonant than the others. I then played all the other ones and none of them had the tone of this sunburst. I knew this was the guitar for me, but I’d already ordered one! I mentioned this to my buddy and much to my amazement, he said he’d buy the one I’d ordered! So I bought the guitar on the spot. When the other one arrived, it sounded like all the other EJs in the store. My buddy was thrilled with it, though. So that’s how we came to own a pair of identical EJs. Shortly after I bought it, I stopped playing guitar due to health reasons. I’ve recently taken up guitar again and yesterday, I played my EJ for 5 1/2 hours. I actually felt the moment when she “broke in.” She was still brand new. I think I’ve found my favorite guitar after owning her for 14 years. I am blown away. Mine is the one on the right.

    I love mine, too!
    It’s a 2008 sunburst.
I put Kinman Woodstocks on mine recently.
I think EJ’s are the best production Strats!

Always wanted one in CAR, but I’m kinda partial to the two tone burst now - but I have so many guitars now ;). Someday, probably :)

I think they must be. I just bought a ‘99 American Standard and, while very nice, it just doesn’t have the quality feel of the EJ. I might turn around and sell it. I don’t think I’ll ever change the pickups on mine because I’m sure they’re a big reason for the special tone.

I had too many guitars when I bought her and I have even more now but I’m sure glad I bought her. There’s a lot to be said for playing just one guitar and this one may be it.

The one on the right? That's the one I would chosen as well :)

I have to go for blood tests every month (better than every week) and I’ve strategically found a lab that is within maybe 1000 ft of a guitar shop. Today I spent a while checking their guitars and ended up having a chat with one of the guys about the EJ Strat. How, great the neck is and how the pickups are like no other set I’ve played in a Strat. Last year they had some “B” stock Eric Johnson Strats and they blew them out at $1,400 Canadian ($1,060 USD). That’s just unbelievable.

I absolutely love mine. It’s a 2012. It’s a battle between my EJ Strat and the Ibanez AS100 I bought in 1981. It could be either of them depending on the day but the EJ definitely get more play these days.

    Here’s my favourite guitar:

Which one do I choose as my #1, The EJ Strat or the Ibanez? ...Yes.

Oooh love the wood grain on that EJ! We seem to be like minded fellows; to wit:

AM93, made in Indonesia, amazing bang for the buck. I just realized you must have bought your Ibanez when you were 15 or 16. That’s a pretty sophisticated guitar for a young feller to be buying. Was that your first guitar? I had an Epiphone Melody Maker at that age lol.
