A Rick in a glass case at GC today.

We took a Sunday drive today and made a little pit stop at GC. They had a used 2010 Midnight Blue Rickenbacker 330 for sale. They had it in a glass case. I've never seen a guitar displayed in a case at GC before (that I remember). They were crazy busy so I didn't bother any of the sales staff about it. I was tempted to play it, but thought better of it. I've never played a Rick. Oh well, just a boring Sunday story.

At that price, the display was more to draw interest to the unique (for GC) guitar or maybe one of the employees wants it and wants to keep grimy fingers off of it.

It's a decent drive to get there. We were just out for a Sunday drive, when traffic is a light. I have my left thumb in a brace right now, so trying to play it would have been a waste of time. It sure was a thing of beauty, IMO.

Years ago, I was at Guitar Center in San Bernardino, CA and they had Clapton's Blackie Strat, SRV's Sunburst Strat and The Edge's Les Paul Custom in glass cases on display. The guitars had been purchased by Guitar Center and they were on a road show stopping at various stores.

I don't think SRVs Strat has been sold? It may have been on loan, but AFAIK his family still owns all his gear.

I keep mine in a display case at the top of my stairs. I'm not GC though.

I bought it when my Dad died as he loved bright red.

Nice guitar, but I’d be willing to bet it needs new strings, a set up, and has tons of fret sprout, so it probably isn’t all that fun to play, and because it’s in that case nobody ever plays it.

I don’t know what the market for Ricks is like, but that seems like a decent price.

I posted the wrong SRV Strat photo. Lenny was the Stratocaster Guitar Center bought in 2004 for 623,500 dollars.

As 12-strings they are absolutely horrible imho, because of that cramped neck. But maybe they’re playable in the 6-string variant, like that one… (I played a 620/12 once and it cured me of thinking I should buy a Ric 12-string!)

They do feel a bit different to play from other guitars: Mine has the gloss maple fingerboard like some Teles, but the nut width is narrow and it's a Gibson scale length too. Quite a different sound to my other guitars though, which is important to me as I don't see the point having 'duplicates'.

Meh. I owned a 330 briefly. Couldn't get along with the narrow nut width and glossy fretboard. And the upper horn dug into my chest when playing seated.

I really like the looks of the 600 model, and I gather they have a wider nut width. I'd like to try one someday.
