    There is a model of Telecaster made in Mexico called the Baja Telecaster. It's part of the Classic Player series.

    so, its a specific model that the mexican fender factory has made? i hope i'm closer to understanding now...

    That's right.

    Fender make a whole range of Telecasters with slightly different specs - the Baja is just one of them.

    i'm all good for most varieties of fender (jaguar, jazzmaster, duosonic) etc, but had no idea of the baja model, anyhoo, they look really nice for the money.
