My son was doing some Tele-tinkering and considered deleting the tone control and going with two volumes. First up, Duncan's wiring diagram:

Curiosity being what it is, he then asked ChatGPT to generate a wiring diagram based on that same description:

I thought you all would enjoy this, until you discover just how much of our world is turning to this for answers. All aboard the Crazy Train, indeed.

Well clearly, you're going to need a P-bass pup for the bridge.
Other than that...I fail to see anything wrong. 😵‍💫

I like that you get three pups for the price of two. Classic AI. :p

Yesterday I challenged both Grok and Gemini to provide me the chords for Somewhere Over the Rainbow in the key of A. This is what Grok provided me, and Gemini was as bad, if not worse.

A F#m D E
Somewhere over the rainbow
A F#m D E
Way up high
A F#m D Bm
There's a land that I heard of
D E A
Once in a lullaby

The rest is equally as bad.

I grabbed an acoustic and played and sang it as suggested to my wife. Her only comment was "Please Stop!!"

Yet we (well not me) keep going back. Because all the negative reviews I read I haven’t found the motivation to spend time there

'Intelligence refers to the ability to learn, understand, and apply knowledge to solve problems and adapt to new situations.'

AI is learning. This nonsense is the equivalent of asking a small child the same question and then lampooning them on an adult forum. Not big or clever. Ask it again, with a question that highlights a problem with the first answer.

Wow! You seem almost upset while we’re just joking around. You don’t have an AI girlfriend, do you? 😜

Nothing wrong with citing the shortcomings of existing AI. I look at it as a cautionary PSA. I query the tech a lot and use it more than Google searches. I've found it useful for the most part. In the case of my example above asking about the chords to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" two AI's failed pretty miserably, even when I responded as such. Their revisions were equally as bad. It just goes to show not to depend on the tech (yet) to have the right answer all the time.

I use AI every day. I don’t even bother with Google hardly.

If you know how to use it and what its limitations are, it’s awesome. ChatGPT and I planned my family’s trip to Europe in July together and it did a great (though not perfect) job.

The funniest thing about LLMs these days is their obliviousness to their own shortcomings. Many times in the last month ChatGPT has offered to do something for me, like draw a map or make a diagram, or order tickets, and then completely failed to do the thing that IT OFFERED to do, like it wasn’t even my idea. 😅

But it won’t be long before it can do all those things reliably.

I still wouldn’t build an amp based on a schematic that it cooked up tho ⚡😱☠️

I wanted to check the daily temperatures at several cities where our impending cruise was headed. AI made that simple. Give me the average temps for these dates at these cities. Done.

For some things it is awesome.

hmmm, I have the pro version of gemini, but I put this prompt in-->

I have a 1972 fender telecaster. I would like to rewire the pickups on this guitar so that instead of having a tone control, I'd like to have a volume control for each pickup so I would effectively mix the two pickups myself by controlling the volume. Can you create a wiring diagram that would allow me to have that?

and it produced a good result that I could use and would work....
