What do you think: black, amber, or gold?

I usually like black better, but in this case I prefer the gold.

First, thanks for the explanation on your finish technique.

Second, as far as knobs and similar, how about wood that matches your binding and fretboard? I'll be honest, I don't care for the plastic p/u ring. These are rosewood to match the f/b, binding and some other stuff. The p/u ring is from a forumite but you can buy really nice wood rings for humbuckers from LMII

No binding on this one. And I like the plastic pickup ring ;).

    Hi Rog,
I like the amber because they compliment the finish so well. The pickups and bridge already own the top so why have another high contrast element fighting for attention. Might get too busy. My $0.02.

I was going to say roughly this.

ETA: I might also go for a black humbucker surround and switch tip, assuming you're using a nickel / chrome top bucker.

Beautiful! I like the contrast the gold knobs give.

Quite a bit of progress this weekend.

Got the body all sanded and polished up.

Can't say that I'm 100% happy with it, though. It looks good in the pics, but up close you can see that it's not very glass-like. I wasn't able to get the scratches out, and I had a few divots left from where I wasn't diligent enough with the flat sanding. I'm really happy with how the burst turned out, though.

With that done, I started assembly. The amber knobs got the nod.

And I got the neck finished up as well.

Got the first coat of TruOil on, and I'll build up 2 or 3 more over the week, so I should have it all finished up by the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Oh, yes - lovely honey burst.

    What a thoughtful parting gift.

i would try to find a transparant acryl pickup ring, the creme one draws to much attention.
and the humbucker setup will look a less bit wider than now.
(one of the reasons i don't like p90 at the neck position, to wide)

Pretty darn great looking instrument!! I kinda agree with hopdy'....not sure about the pickup ring, but it's certainly a subjective thing.

Been busy with the pick cutter?

But now seriously. That burst is beautiful. You've inspired me to create a similar burst on a current project.

What a lovely ax, Rog. I wish I couldn’t finish as good as you can’t. (did that come out right?). I was gonna vote with the minority, for the amber knobs, glad they won out.
