    what ?
Do I have to look at every thread now ?
    I’m lukewarm on GC anyway.
They’d never pick that for my eternal punishment.
it would be something like wandering a Walmart in rural ‘Murica at 3:00am, and the store speakers would be blaring “we didn’t start the fire” alternating with “freeze frame” and “Sgt Peppers Lonely hearts Club band”...:(

So where do you shop for guitar gear?
Most of the other good music stores in the greater Boston area I used to shop at closed over a decade ago.
I miss the Daddy's Junky Music chain, started shopping there in circa 1975 and kept it up until they went under maybe six years ago.

You're not too far from PM Blues in Providence if it's still there, mostly boutique & vintage though.
There's a place called Boston Music inland a ways, not in Boston, that has mostly top shelf stuff.
Otherwise it seems GC is the last holdout in the brick & mortar guitar shop business.
The Boston area must have had 30 guitar shops at one time.

Cool that the GC sales dood made good, for the most part they aren't as bad as the raving internet complainers claim, IME.

I like their free rental program.
Give them the cash value, use it for a few weeks, get the $$ back and pay nothing for the rental.
    What was the complaint?

    Killer deal!

Here’s my good GC story. Found this Peavey Classic 20 in the used pile, fully functional, with a Celestion Gold 10 speaker in it. .

    upload_2019-10-24_2-40-9.jpeg

I took it to the counter to ask if the price was mis-mjarked. Nope—that was the price. A 2x EL84 amp, made in the USA, for $50. Sold! I figured nobody would believe me, so I saved the tagger.

Single set of EBs A$15.00 at my local but I'd rather keep him open than buy online there are no other stores near by so it's important to support local.

I do buy stuff online that he doesn't stock.

We were only using you for "illustrative" purposes Mike. If after your untimely demise at the age of 97 you were sent over to Walmart, I'm thinking you would probably have to be the guy who sits out front pedaling stale peanut brittle, and you still wouldn't get to go to the bathroom.:lol::lol::lol:

Best part of the story! I can't believe he had to ask if the guy was high, most of the guys at our GC look high all the time. I keep noticing they run to the back room all the time and take forever to get me online order to the counter. Now I know why!

    This is so weird.

Maybe none of the employees at that GC play music.

Or maybe each has a stash of Peavey amps already; more than they can ever use and nobody wants to buy them.

I'm down to two Peavey amps, and had basically resolved never to buy another. But I think I would've made an exception here. And. The Celestion is worth $ 50-75 by itself.

All my GC experiences has been great. Sometimes, I wonder what all the fuss is about.

My only issue being at GC are the showoffs testing out guitars...

    I'm with you, sir.

I have been exceedingly lucky when it comes to Guitar Centers.

Please bear in mind that I have only visited or bought from:
    * The one here in Huntsville, AL
    * The one in Arlingon, TX
    * The one in Grand Prairie, TX
and I have visited one in Phoenix, AZ and Bakersfield, CA as well.

Are there bad ones out there?
YES, I sure they are out there.

I just haven't run into one yet.

Good deal on the strings, OP.
    Good stuff!
    :)

Same in Canada. Long and Mcquade and Steve’s are great, but there are only a few in major centres that rival the average Sam Ash or GC. We have a small L&M, but gotta drive 10 hours to get to a really well stocked store. And yes, the prices are higher, even taking into account the exchange rate.

Being the guy who has to repeatedly play Smoke on the Water while other dudes come in to the room take a dump sounds like an even lower level of Hell.

So, after your encounter at Guitar Center with the sales doods, did you stop at the local Burger King for some tasty fast fudes?

They sound like the same GC doods that tried to sell me the extended warranty on the Snark tuner.

Personally, I think that the shift in business plan from being able to haggle to no haggle has left a lot of people angry. I don't feel angry, I just don't buy much there anymore, (make that almost nothing). At one time, there was kind of a family type thing going on with GC, if you bought a lot of stuff, they would deal, and I mean really deal. Now that they have seemingly ran off all their long time employees, and set the prices if not in stone, done away with the flexibility to deal, it's just not much fun going there.

I thought you were gonna say you went into a GC & someone was trying out a guitar on the CLEAN setting.
