I needed some new strings for my Tele. EB Slinkys. Walked in, grabbed a pack, waked to the counter. The dood says, "These are three packs for $10." That sounds like a deal from the old days... so I bit. Yeah man, hit me for three, and I'll go grab the other two packs.

When I get back, he's struggling in the computer to ring it up 3/$10. He asks the other dood... who replies, "Are you high? I never heard that deal." They ask dood #3. Nope. No such deal.

So dood #1 says... "Eh, I'll just over-ride."

Then he said, "That would suck if I told you a deal like that, then didn't give it to you."

And he gave me the deal anyway.

If you are in any way associated with GC and aren’t disclosing that fact in this fluffiness, I will report you!

You guys who complain about GC - come to australia where the biggest shops are about 1:4 of the size of an average GC. Where if you have more than 5 choices of guitar or amp you’re doing well. Where you have to drive miles to look at pedals which you then can’t afford. (To be fair that’s the exchange rate rather than markup.). But the guitars aren’t the exchange rate. I’m sure there have been bad experiences. But the few times I was in GC or a sam ash I nearly fainted.

I'm just wondering with your chosen field of work if you know whether there's any truth to the rumor that when you pass on, if you've been a bad boy, say like, not saying he is but just using him for an example, Mike Eskimo. That if you don't go on to a great reward, you have to serve out eternity strapped into a chair, and listen to Stairway to Heaven being played endlessly at a Guitar Center with no bathroom breaks EVER?

I just bought a slinky 3 pack on amazon two weeks ago for $11 and change with free shipping. It was packaged as a 3 pack - all in one gold foil packet with three sets in individual clear packets inside. Just checked and the price is $13 now.
EDIT: just found the 3 pack on Amazon for $10.97

GC does that 3/$10 deal on Slinkys during every holiday sale lately. And when I was there on Saturday, my local GC had them marked "Buy two packs, get one free"... which I think works out the same, more or less.

Dood #1 got his wires crossed in that GC has the EB 22XX series of strings on sale for $10.98 in the three sets in one package not 3 individual packages. He was also 98 cents low on cost. Combined the two and its easy to see why the computer wouldn't accept the transaction. Dood's #2 and 3 were less informed that Dood #1 at least he had some inkling GC had put the EB strings on sale.

Hey, good on them. I've had some really cool, helpful folks at GC. I've also gotten the dirt worst service. Definitely varies by location in my experience. So I can't paint the entire enterprise with a broad brush.

The 3-packs-of-Slinkies deal happens frequently at my local GC, mostly on holidays. The only catch is they have to all be the same; you can't mix types or gauges.

It's the only time I step foot in the place.
