I've got a fairly early D+. Note the component shot and how things were so simple 40 years ago. I replaced the totally deteriorated original foam rubber with some generic air conditioner filter material. Pigtail is for the power supply.

I love the originals and not so much the Dunlop versions which are really not the same.
Some may be close and the new designs are another story.
Fuzz Faces I like other brands.
Whirlwind is the original MXR designer and while I have numerous phase 45 and 90 both vintage and RI, I like the Whirlwind orange box phaser best. These wanted to pose tonight.

Yeah, if you look at the Distortion+ circuit diagram there's really not much to it at all. I was a teenager in the 70's and probably built more complicated circuits with my Radio Shack electronics kit, the kind with the little spring posts you connected with jumper wires. Pretty sure there was a 741 op-amp on those kits.

I like the swirly, growly bass "thing" I get from my Fuzz Face into Phase 90 into Distortion+. Sometimes I'll be listening to a some tuner or another on Tidal and humming along with it and I find myself wondering, "Wouldn't this sound cool with that growly FuzzPhaStrortion sound"?

I picked a Super bad ass distortion a few months ago on the used rack at GC for $69
i thought it would be way too much octane for blues but between 11 and 3 OC its quite surprising.
very creamy and lots of sustain and note definition

i have a few fulltones that are sitting in my gig bag no doing nothing now

I keep hearing good things about that pedal--I'm sure I'll own one sooner or later.

I have a block logo Distortion + that I bought used in ‘85/‘86. It was the first pedal I bought and cost me $25. I used that until I got a TS-10 in ‘90.

I also have a Custom Shop script Phase 90 that I really like. The model is CSP-101S and appears to be a short lived version. I can never find any info online about it. It’s like the ‘74 model but has an adapter jack. I also wonder if they just rehoused the EVH circuit board since it actually has “EVH” printed on it.

The only other MXR item I have is a Power Brick. I prefer my Voodoo Labs power supply over it, though, since the plugs disconnect easily.

I've got the obligatory Wah and Phase 100, but this one is my favorite.

Dyna-Comp in "Bud Box" with pots dating to '73. Bought it years ago without fully understanding what its vintage was from someone who didn't understand fully what its vintage was. Loved the way it sounded, offered $70 and took it home.

We're among friends here in the MXR pedal club so I have a guilty admission...

Every day when I sit down to play and see my three MXR/Dunlop pedals lined up under my feet, I can't help but imagining other colors of little metal boxes tacked onto that row. I've never used a compressor that did anything useful but Dyna Comp is red and red would go nice with Teal, Orange, Yellow, don't you think? And the newer Carbon Copy delays are a cool deep green sparkle color.

It's almost as bad as that form of GAS that makes people buy Yet Another Telecaster because they "don't have one with a tortoise pickguard yet". I say "almost as bad" because $100 MXRs are a lot cheaper than $1,000 Teles.

I have a chance to pick up a Custum Badass 78 Distortion for $40. I use the MXR Classic OD for overdrive and a Rat clone for distortion. Is it worth picking up the 78 Distortion, or is it redundant?

How about the Red Box compressor, ever tried one of them?

I've never had any luck with compressors but I'm tempted to add a Dyna Comp to my Phase 90/Distortion+ pair just to try the full MXR late 70's/early 80's experience:cool:

There are actually used Whirlwind Red Boxes (Dyna Comp) out there for somewhat reasonable prices. Supposedly hand-wired and all that jazz. Probably a more interesting choice than just a generic modern MXR two-knob comp. Only drawback is the Whirlwind is black rather than red...
