My wife just sent me a picture of something she saw on the shelves of a pet store...

Her text message with the pic said, "It's a cat scratching post!:lol::lol:"

I replied, "You say, 'scratching post,' I say, 'training item to do evil.' Don't you dare buy it!":mad:

We have that. The cat likes it.
Hopefully getting it wasn't a strike on the guitar limit for the house.

Just open and stand an acoustic guitar case and let the cat go to town on it. I see folks with pics of cats in their case case. A dander no no.

Are the strings catgut? THAT'LL give 'em something to think about while they're scratching.

My reply to my wife was meant as humor, as is this post. Our household has one Beagle and two rescue cats. They're both right around 10 years old now, and we got them both as kittens, Celeste and Annie.

But they're not from the same litter. Celeste, the Siamese/tabby mix, "adopted" me here in Corpus, and Annie was rescued by our grandkids in San Antonio. They wanted to keep her, but one of their best friends was horribly allergic to cat dander, so their solution was for my wife and I to adopt her so they could watch her grow up and see her when they came to visit.

For a decade now, they have used one of my guitar cases as a scratching post. It's a Roadrunner case that I bought new in 2008. It's seen a lot of miles, and not all of the torn tolex/wear and tear is the cats' fault. But you can definitely see they favor this case for their scratching post.

I don't really get that upset about it anymore; it was just a $70 case a dozen years ago, and I don't use it very often anymore. And better they scratch on this than the grill cloth or tolex of one of my amps, or the leg of the kitchen table. When they try for the latter, they get squirted by a squirt gun, or hit by a nerf ball, or a throw pillow from the couch, whatever's handy.

They can be frustrating at times, but I put up with it. Under no circumstances will I ever consider de-clawing a cat.

My greatest build-it-yourself project: a scratching post. 18" x 18" floor plate, 4x4x24" upright covered with old carpet. With never a nail trim, he requires heavy duty. But awesome battle scars, LGOberean!

I never had any issues our cats and my guitars and cases. They would curl up in the cases, curl up on the guitars (usually on the sofa), curl up on the pedal board (still have cat hair on the soft base pad), and curl up beside me sometimes when I’d play sitting down

Back in the day Fender had a whole range of amps for cats.
