I’ve been reading a lot on here and the web regarding A/B/Y boxes.

I’m looking for a inexpensive one just to fool around with. The two the come up the most are the Fender and the Morley, with the Morley being most recommended.

I don’t gig and don’t need a $500 Mesa switcher. Looking at under $100. Mostly for the novelty. I’ll be mostly hooking it up to 2 Mustangs 2v2 or a Mustang and a Crush 12.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Power supply is separate as I recall.

Its THE simplest pedal circuit of all. As long as the housing is strong, and the switches are adequate, you can't go wrong. Frankly, I've not seen an ABY box that I wouldn't trust. Never seen one go bad either.

Just the simple black Morley is fine. I paid $30 for mine, but they may be more now.

On stage I use switchers from Loop-Master. There stuff is plain aluminum with good switches and inexpensive.
I imagine a 2 switch one would be very cheap.

I just picked this one up used a week or so ago. Way under $100. Works awesome. I use it to run one guitar into two amps simultaneously and can detect no loss of signal or other weirdness.

I experimented with a dual amp setup some years ago. I remember trying to do it on a tight budget. The cheap switcher did not sound good in the Y position. I'd recommend getting something buffered. I ended up with a Radial Twin-City pedal and it was excellent.

I'd like one with a 1/4 in and an XLR in, to an XLR out. That way my acoustic and my telecaster (through a mic'd cab) could just use one channel. I've heard that's crazy but it sounds good to me!

I've got the Donner pedal, too. It's well-built, and was only about $25 on Amazon. It does require a power supply, but that is just for the LED indicators and will work fine unpowered. As long as you are okay with "Y" being accessible with the slider switch only, I think it's a solid choice for home use.

If you just switch between guiatrs all should work fine. If you plan on running two amps simultaneously you need a isolated one. The cheapest would be a used Radial Big Shot, should be under 100, or maybe you find a used Lehle Dual for a good price

I have the cheap, plain old Morley ABY that works fine as long as there is a buffered pedal in front of it. Without a buffer, it can sound thin to split a guitar signal in two. If the ABY is for a 2-amp setup, you may want one with a ground lift and phase correction in case of hum from ground loops or phase issues between the amps. But I haven't had those problems with the few amps I have.

For running a couple of amps, the Radial Big Shot has several useful features including ground lift, isolated transformer and polarity reversal. It's right at $100 new, but can be had for less on the used market.

I have an ART CoolSwitch ABY. Like the other budget ones, it only needs power for the LEDs. If you don’t need those to tell you what it’s doing (I don’t), it needs nothing. If I need another, I’ll probably get the Donner, just because I have a Donner pedal I’m happy with.

I wonder if this guy would be able to build you something, or mod an A/BY or channel switcher to give you what you are looking for.

I use the Fender one to channel switch & combine on my Vox AC15C1. Cheap and works a treat.
I had the same battery (to run the LEDs in it) for 4 years iirc, now it’s on my pedalboard with a PSU.

I’ve used the Startouch ST-2 for ten years. Built like a tank in a steel case with quality components. Made in Portland Oregon.
