I am wondering if I can put an 8 ohm speaker in my new ac15. It has the 16 ohm greenback in there now. The impedance switch on the back is obviously set to 16 ohm currently, but I would like to know if it is just a matter of switching the impedance switch to 8 ohm allowing me to use/install the 8 ohm speaker inside the amp. I am aware of being able to switch the impedance switch to 8 and use the external speaker jack on the back to plug the speaker in. I would like to mount the speaker in the amp and hook it up to the existing speaker wires and not use the external speaker jack. I hope I'm explaining this correctly. There has been a lot of yes you can/no you can't answers for this question that I have seen on the web. I appreciate any help with this. Thanks!!

Install the speaker and select the OT impedance to match. Be aware that if there are only two taps on that OT...8 and 16 ohms....and if you install an 8 ohm speaker, you cannot run another speaker in that extension jack along with the internal 8 ohm and have a matched load to the OT. If there is a 4 ohm tap as well, then two 8 ohms in parallel yield a 4 ohm load.
I am not familiar with that amp, but usually an extension speaker jack must be used in conjunction with the internal speaker. That would mean with the internal 16 ohm speaker, one would want to select the 8 ohm tap IF one wanted to run an external 16 ohm speaker in conjunction with the internal speaker. I see that there are manuals for your amp. I would suggest that perhaps Vox manuals are the best source for details of your amp.
Good luck with the new amp.

Thanks for the reply,
Yes the manual doesn't say anything about mounting an 8 ohm speaker internally. I did however get an answer from Vox technical support stating that if I mount the 8 ohm speaker internally I would just have to switch the impedance to 8 ohms. The output transformer will support both 8/16 ohm internally mounted speakers giving that the impedance is set to match. However, to support your comment, if I do mount the 8 ohm internally I cannot use a extension speaker in the extension speaker jack according to Vox. I see this question come up A LOT on the web and it seemed as though no one knew the correct answer.

Is this the C1 model? If so, it should have an external jack and an extension jack. The extension would add to the internal speaker, and as you already know - you can't do that if you put an 8ohm speaker in the amp. But an External jack will disconnect the internal speaker and you would set the output to match the external cabinet.
