i'm working on a 79 les paul with a set of bill lawrence pickups that one has gone bad. open coil. looking for suggestions for replacements, both neck and bridge. seymour duncan has a set that would be perfect but owner wants me to get recommendations prior to making a decision.
thanks,

One of the best all-round humbuckers is the Stooge Mac Parsons Street humbucker. I generally don't recommend Stew Mac because they're expensive for tools, etc.

But their pickups are reasonably priced, well made, and sound fantastic. I have them in several of my guitars and love 'em. They're not particularly powerful, but that's the key to great tone and real versatility. They can twang and bark. The lower power is the reason why Gibson's legendary PAF is so coveted.

When you say Bill Lawrence, the fake Bill Lawrence USA or Bill Lawrence Wilde? Don't judge the quality of the later by the former!

You won't find any better than the Bill Lawrence Wilde L500 or L90 series depending on taste. Crystal clear to killer dirty even in the 500XL version.

1st video 500XL & L even with 250k pots.
2nd video L500L & R
3rd L90 6.0 & 4.0h

My eyes just went over that and unquestioningly parsed that there's a boutique winder named Stooge MacParsons, or maybe he's a famous guitarist I haven't heard of, and this is his "Street" model (I don't know, maybe there are other models in the line called "Alley" and "Thoroughfare" and "Cul de Sac"), and I had to google it before the penny finally dropped. That's my mental state today.

Anyway. I've got DiMarzios in my LP, Super Distortion bridge and 36th Anniversary PAF neck, and I couldn't be happier with them. Just a good meat n potatoes rawk set.
