Have the chance to get one and the finish is putting me off slightly as someone has attempted to relic it by scratching it all with sandpaper then trying to sand the scratches out.
Otherwise it is supposed to be a fine and playable guitar. Would have looked great in gloss black as well

If you liked it it would be possible to have it either wetsanded and buffed up or a shot coat over the top.

Take it to a smash repairer or furniture polisher literally 'that'll buff right out'

You could get buffing compound and a buffer from your nearest auto store and do it yourself.

I think it's a poly finish. Still buffable?

Yep. You can do it by hand with lots of elbow grease.

Looks hand sanded. Use a good block to level wet sand. Be sure that you get ALL the old sanding scratches out or they will reappear after buffing.
    Good luck on your project,

Cotton buffing wheels on a drill motor work. there are different hardnesses of wheels from hard to soft, floppy ones...Not too much pressure at first, the hard ones will actually take off the paint...

Relic is good when caused by actual playing otherwise Im not a fan. Good luck with the restoration.

    Yes. I mean, still restorable.

With some samples, test various grades of sandpaper and determine what's the coarsest grain the "rusticator" used. Go to the next fineness to that and do the whole body, then the next fineness and so forth. The poly is thick enough you should be able to do a complete sanding of each fineness of paper until you see no scratches, through to 2000 fineness. THEN you can start with the polishing/buffing.

Hopefully he used nothing coarser than 240. Otherwise, the process will be long, but it can be done and I think sanding through is only a concern IF the previous guy removed a lot of finish around the edges. Just don't pay too much; this vandalism should take $ 200 easy, off the normal going price.
