I had been going back and forth on this one. Even though I know they are not accurate to the original I decided to pull the trigger. Please keep in mind that there are minor differences between every original Broadcaster so I will only say what they are between mine.

First and most important the pickups do not sound the same, the anniversary sounds more like a Tele not that this is bad just not like the original. The original has a lot more growl and attitude and it definitely has a sweet spot without having too much gain. The neck profiles are different, the modern one has a c while my original is a soft v, also the anniversary nut is slightly wider just to the point of being noticable. There is a lip but about half the size of my original and the same can be said of the router hump. It looks like it's there but just barely noticeable.

The waterslide logo looks just like all the reproductions, I've never seen one that had the right shape offered commercially. The tuners are also commercially available and not accurate to the originals. The brass saddles are also completely different they are round with vertical screws where the originals had flat bottoms and height screws at 45 degree angles. On the anniversary the string ferrules are perfectly spaced which is different than the originals. Dots at the 12th fret too far apart. Lastly the pick guard seems to be plastic not bakelite.

Still glad I bought it. Broadcasters.jpg

I bought it from someone years ago in a fire sale. He knew exactly what it was but needed cash quick and I knew it would be the only time I would ever see one at that price. Original electronics but has been refinished.

Absolutely, congratulations on both. It looks like the upper bout on the original is a bit taller than the reissue, or is that just the angles of the guitars in the photo? I wonder how much variation there was on the assembly line in the early days?

    It's the angle.

I'm going to suggest, that FMIC deliberately punted the ball out of bounds.

They didn't want to get this guitar too close. Most of us can go 6 months (or years) without seeing the original Broadcaster and so our recollections as to details fade. I think FMIC was genuinely concerned that rapidly aging collectors would get turned around and would buy modded new Broadcasters, as genuine vintage ones. So they left the putt well short.

If you have an original why would you buy this, given the inaccuracies and all. That said, I'm sure it's a fine guitar.

Then, why have TDPRI at all?

This is about knowledge, and curiosity - plus you can play this when you have no desperate need to play the real one. You could display this while the real one is stored someplace safe, at times, and 99% of the world wouldn't know what was what. Museums do that sort of thing all the time.

Seems like a no brainer to me, but that's why I fit in here OK! :^)

Wow. Would love to see more detailed, side-by-side photos of various aspects of the two guitars.

Nice broadcasters!!! I finally got to see and old one of the new broadcaster reissues. I picked it up and put it right down. Probably a 10lbs guitar, wow that was a surprise. I don’t thing they would all be like but man that was disappointing.
