Hey there anyone know what the original speaker was in the "Original" 68 Deluxe Reverb? My 68 VM Cust Fox Reverb Reissue has the Celestion V30. It's Ok. But I'm looking for something closer to the original.

Ya, those V30 are nice and crunchy Brit rock stuff.

Back in the day, it would be a Jensen, CTS, Oxford or Utah C12N for that fender chime.
There are billions of variants now that try to copy that.

The current Italian C12N is not that bad., but, you have choices.

    Wish you luck

I put a GA10 - SC64 in my 68 Custom Princeton; Eminence makes a 12 inch version (GA - SC 59) in ceramic. Or Eminence Legend.

It's not traditional, but the Weber 12" AlNiCo speaker is just about the best thing I've ever heard in a deluxe. I believe 12A150 is the model number. Voice of the angels. It was a bout $180 the last time I bought one so, it's not cheap but, man is it ever worth it! Increases clean headroom dramatically.

Great combination. The Eminence GA series matches really well with these amps.

I have a “real” 1968 Deluxe Reverb. I’m not sure about the brand, but the label is blue. 6D7ECF1D-6297-437F-A760-15EA37CEFACC.jpeg

Originals had ceramic magnet speakers but the right Alnicos can sound great too. My 74 SFDR had a Utah but I run a Weber 12F150 now.

To get closer to the original 68 SFDR sound I'd look for a ceramic design similar to original Jensen, Oxford, etc. In addition to the suggestions made above, you might also look at offerings from WGS (Warehouse Guitar Speakers) and Jupiter.

Keep in mind that a new speaker will need time to break in to deliver best tone it is capable of. Also, your Custom Deluxe 68 has a bit different tone circuitry than the 65 DRRI and the original BF/SF amps, so will still sound different regardless of speaker.

That may just have it. How does it behave pushed? I often use a Weber Mini Mass so I can crank the amp itself and then attenuate.

Is the 12150 like an ALNICO Blue?

I had these Alessandro’s in two vintage BF Deluxe Reverbs and now in a SF Deluxe Reverb. I also had the 10” versions in a Vibroverb RI.

They have all been great sounding speakers, from new, and just out of the box, and even better as they break-in.

I had some really good guitar players tell me my last BF Deluxe Reverb was one of the best sounding Fender amps that they ever heard. They all heard that amp pushed. It was instant SRV with a Strat. That amp was all stock except for new filter caps, a 3-prong plug, and the Alessandro.

Thanks for the info sounds like a good option. Like I said Ive always been Jensen fan so anything with that character but more durable is a good possibility.

To my ears, I need to have an American voiced speaker in a Fender amp (other than maybe a Celestion Gold). An old Jensen C12N is the ultimate Fender amp speaker, but finding a nice one ($$$) and being afraid to push it due to age are downfalls.

Read some reviews on the Alessandro and how/why the speaker was designed (for an Alessandro handwired Deluxe Reverb).

I’m just sold on the Alessandro in a Fender amp. Plus, the Alessandro is a fairly inexpensive speaker. I bought my last GA-SC64 about a month ago for $120 shipped. Just my thoughts.

Hope that you find the the speaker that works for you.
