My amp, a 4 or 5 year old 68 CDR, started making some loud static, then blew a fuse. I inspected the PCB components, I can't find any sign of overhearing, nor burnt smells. I put together a light-bulb limiter and set out to try some tube substitution to find whether there's a bad tube.

I pulled all the tubes, then set about to add them one by one. Wait, what's this? The tube layout chart, installed in my DR is a Princeton DR chart, with only 4 preamp tubes, instead of the 6 I'm looking at. Nice QC. I Googled around, but can't find a chart on the web. I have schematics, but I'm not sure whether V1, V2, V3, etc., on the schematic, correspond to the physical layout left to right.

Anyone have the proper tube layout? Or better yet, a pdf file of the correct tube chart would be awesome. Thanks!

V1 input preamp, post-tone-control make-up gain
V2 both triodes are used to drive Reverb
V3 one triode boosts the output of the Reverb tank, other is used to mix the dry and reverb signal and add some gain
V4 one section is the trem oscillator, other section is the phase inverter

Quick follow-up:

For chuckles, I called the Fender help line. He told me they didn't have a location chart either! I gave him the fenderguru.com address Groan provided, he says, "That's a great resource, I'm gonna bookmark that." How could this chart be so hard to get? He had never heard of an amp being sent out with the wrong chart. Hmmm.

I followed Rob Robinette's suggestions on how to use the light bulb, stuffed the proper tubes into the sockets, and things are working fine. I took a guess, and replaced the very old preamp tube, (I think it's a GE, but most of the markings are worn off), with a newer one. I'm not sure whether that was the problem, but all's well that ends well, right?

Thanks again, gents!
