There's enough room in a 1960B for 2x15 mounted diagonally.

It's been a long time since my high school Spanish but I can wade through it. Besides, who reads anymore? Dude... it's amp porn. Porn is about the pictures not the text.

Lol. I just read the TDPRI for the articles. I swear. :D

That's some dang good porn right there too. That's a full-on vintage-as-it-gets mega-mojo build - right down to all the junk that we think just makes amps noisier and less reliable nowadays.

EDIT: ...Except for that one wirewound resistor that sticks out like a sore thumb.

You are a truly sick individual.

He put metal film on V3's socket for the 6.3 artificial center tap. That is ingenious.

Going carbon comp 100%, while authentic, results in no "authentic mojo" in tone. Using CC's for all plate resistors will though. I pretty much use metal film everywhere except for plate resistors. Still, authentic looks is sometimes as important to some folks as authentic sound, and they do look very cool!

It also looks like he's using the old "light bulb attenuator" trick... I wouldn't do that... unless I liked dead 6V6's.

It does look like an 8 ohm Jensen reissue P12N from that one photo.

    Thank you very kindly but...

Flattery will get you nowhere. :D

I use carbon comps in all my stuff. It looks like Spanish Guy tracked down NOS Allen-Bradleys (the 56ks look like TRWs), those are the super duper Adult Boutique  parts. I use them because I have them. BTW we can get as hung up about resistors as we can about anything else. I've got TRWs, Stackpoles, Ohmites, the A-Bs I've already mentioned, etc.. I can tell an A-B from a Stackpole for instance by color and style, they're subtly different shades of brown. TRWs are easy, they have a mold mark around them. Refer to Johnny's diagnosis above...

I don't have noise problems with carbon comps in vintage circuits. I could see where I might have problems, for instance if I used 100k carbon comps on V1 in something that had four gain stages... garbage in, garbage out. If there's any noise at V1 it's just going to get bigger further down in the signal path.

    I figured you'd know that was a compliment :)

You are a very bad influence muchxs... see what you've done now?

If I still lugged around 4x12"s, I'd definitely try a dual 15" as well (it'd look sick in an old basketweave grill cloth cab). I'd probably save it for my JCM800 head build and plug my Jackson with active EMGs into it via a Tubescreamer. If that wouldn't bring back Dimebag Darrell and Randy Rhoads from the grave, I can't imagine a halfstack cab that could.

I use to run a rig a year ago when we toured texas. 2 Sunn Beta Lead Heads and one 2203 JCM800. Each running a 2x15 cab. One had a BOSS Bass Overdrive in front, One a Bluebeard Fuzz (Muff Style KILLER), and the last one had a RAT (this was the 2203).

BIGGEST sound on the planet. To bad it was a rented out set of cabs and two sunn's. :(
