I'm really thinking of buying this thing.
All original except for tuners, as far as I can tell.
Not minty...plenty of bumps and bruises, but played and loved.
So...no 2nd strap button.
I really like a strap button at the heel.
What do I do?

do a strap tie..behind the nut under the strings like in the "old" days? i assume there is a strap button at the bottom ( bridge) end of the guitar

Some more...
Sort of a bucket list thing to own a PAF guitar.

I could do the T-Bone...I just don't like it.
I suppose I could get used to it.

Oooh, steel bobbin mounting screws in that photo :D

The solder looks unmolested, right?

Mucho mojo in that rig. I hope you buy it and play it like crazy. Tough call on the strap button. Using @Resojazznblues suggestion could work for a long time. I'd start with that. If, after while, you decide it's a forever keeper and the tie at heel doesn't suit you, I would install a strap button and let my heirs worry about any loss of value.

As corny as it looks to tie the strap up at the peg head it is mucho comfortable that way. The strap lies on your shoulder at a more obtuse angle, distributing the weight of the instrument differently.

I'll try to live with that for awhile and see what happens.
I've never been much of an acoustic guy, so I've had little chance to get accustomed to that.
When I do, it doesn't feel bad, per se...just very different...in a Joan Baez sort of way ;)

Buy it and put the strap button where you want it. It won't impact the value appreciably, and you'll own and love this guitar until you can't play it anymore. With a little luck, in the next year or so you'll be able to play it out at cool gigs and open mics (or whatever) and you'll be the guy with the awesome vintage Gibson that makes everyone jealous.

5 hours is a good amount of time to clear one's head in the car. (5 hours each way, though... oof.)

I put a second strap button on my '69 Gibson Crest the day I bought it.

On this guitar, where the tuners have already been changed so it's no longer all original anyway, adding a strap button will not have any effect on value or desirability should you sell it in the future.

The usual spot to put one is the heel area just as you would an acoustic - if you decide to put it on the rim like a Les Paul you'll need to reinforce it from the inside.
