"It's a "Custom Shop" not a "Recreate Historically Accurate Instruments Shop."

Exactly. I've seem very few of the custom models that followed traditional specs. Not that they don't build quality stuff.

Maybe they're running out of Tele ideas.

Maybe they should've said 50's style Thinline. I like the idea.
Also like the OP's idea of a WRHB Strat.

Has the guitar companies gone mad? How many Tele versions does Fender need to make anyway? And Fender isn't the only one, Gibson now has about 22 different models of the LP for 2017 not counting the custom shop line. Do we really need that many? All that and not one DC LP and hardly any with P90's.
Well the answer is yes if people will buy them of course, but what about the other guitars these companies make that buyers can't find when they want one?

It's not like Gibson don't keep putting out 50's SG, despite the SG only being launched in 61. Never let something like historical accuracy get in the way of things

I gotta hand it to Fender though. The otherwise dark days of the CBS era gave us some pretty interesting Telecaster models. Standard, 2 different Thinlines, Custom, and Deluxe. Ever since, they just got cute and slapped a label and price tag on em without serious thought to innovation.

Loved it so much I made my own. MJT Swamp Ash body and top in 'Mary Kaye' whitewash, Broadcaster type bridge pickup, RW 50's Fender Tele neck.

I like the mutants, generally. Loved a lot of the Pawn Shop models. This one is a little bit meh, but I don't hate it.

Wasn't this the point of Fender's Pawnshop Series? Guitars that were never made, but could have been.
