I also think Decade is a must-have for any real Neil Young fan. I didn't include it because it's a compilation. Usually I'm not that fond of compilations, but Decade is one of the best of them in rock.

Don't need any more Neil than those three.

    In no particular order:

    Rust Never Sleeps
    Neil Young
    Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
    Mirrorball
    Old Ways

That being said, I have yet to listen to Zuma and I have heard nothing but good things.

Rust Never Sleeps (gets bonus points for rhyming "llama" with "Texarkana," and I agree with the above comment that "Thrasher" is a masterpiece)
    On the Beach
    Tonight's the Night
    Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
    Weld

I think I'm going to start a thread of the best Neil Young songs on bad albums, because some of his best work is scattered through some of his worst albums. He's weird like that.

Seeing a lot of love for 'Zuma' - I'll have to give it another few spins, it's never really grabbed me.

I'll throw in another vote for Greendale - and Sleeps with Angels.

    Oh, and Freedom.

Never really got On the Beach.

One way to describe Zuma is that it's Neil Young's "bro" album, in a good way. It was recorded in Malibu, and has a distinct California vibe. But the best thing about it is that it's a stellar electric guitar album. If you love crunchy, distorted, off-kilter electric guitar and amp sounds, it's a must.

I totally agree. I cut my teeth on that record and decided I wanted to play electric guitar after hearing it. I initially learned to play the guitar from NY and Beatles songbooks.

    1. Everybody Knows...
    2. Harvest
    3. Zuma
    4. Comes a Time
    5. On the Beach

Honorable Mention: Neil Young (self titled)
